Too lazy to search; What's Fritz's background...is the state of Iowa an obstacle?

He would be an intriguing choice. Midwest roots. Played college football at Pittsburg State (KS) - coached in Kansas and at Central Missouri where his Dad coached. Also has JUCO experience which might help him with JUCO recruits and might be what ISU needs. Also coached in Texas and he should have some connections to high school coaches there which could help recruiting. If Kansas and Missouri weren't an obstacle I doubt Iowa would be. He certainly would have better facilities at ISU than anywhere he has coached.

It might be a bit unorthodox and might not excite the fan base the way a top assistant from a power school would but winning excites the fan base more than anything and he isn't an assistant trying to become a HC.

I would like the hire, he might be exactly what ISU needs.

Justin Fuente should be at least seriously considered. It won’t be long before a P5 plucks him. Big 12 ties as a player and assistant, QB coach and offensive coordinator experience. First conference title for Memphis since 1971, when Memphis was in the Valley. So he would know QB development for sure ... then just find a good defensive coordinator. ISU could face $ hurdle of combining his buyout and a Rhoads buyout (Fuente just got extension after 2014), but base salaries are comparable.

I am all over Fuente at this point after watching them beat #13 Ole Miss today. Still undefeated this year and it's not just a flash in the pan one year thing of success. Sign me up.

My only issue with Fuente is how good will they be once their qb leaves? I feel like too many coaches ride the coat tails of a good player only to find out they weren't as good as they seemed to be. I'm not saying he is a terrible coach but I could see him going to Scar and not being as good as he seemed at Memphis. I'd still vote for Willie Fritz.

I think Fuente is on his way to a place like Miami, South Carolina, etc. A much bigger school is going to grab him.

It's probably already been beaten to the ground, but ISU needs to look for someone who has taken a bad program and made it into something decent/respectable elsewhere.

This element should be considered.

I also want some extensive head coaching experience, it'd probably be up-and-comer.

A name mentioned a few times here, Willie Fritz, has the latter, but each program had some success historically prior to his arrival (Central Missouri, Sam Houston State, Georgia Southern).

We need the best recruiter coach for the money that JP is willing to pay. Probably someone with texas strings.

I think in 10-15 years almost everyone will be running Baylor's offense (spreading from sideline to sideline) so Bob Stitt might not be a bad choice. He is very innovated. He invented the jets swipe pass, and the tunnel WR screen. He beat NDSU. He spreads out his WRs to encourage man coverage and put stress on the safeties. I think we can grab him before he gets big at Montana. Also it might give us a chance to benefit off the new offense before everyone runs it.

See Charlie Strong. How much of the QB's success can be attributed to the coach isn't known and vs P5 schools Memphis allows over 30 ppg over the last couple years. The only thing in Fuente's favor vs Fritz is Fuente is a nationally recognized brand right now and might be able to bring in higher level recruits from day one. Long term though winning is the key to recruiting success and Fritz has done that consistently.

For those saying we need to bring in a spread guy like Leach or the HC from Tulsa, etc...

COACH HUGGINS: I was tired of losing, that was the biggest thing (reason to start pressing). I think sometimes it's good to do something different, and I kind of looked around the league and really nobody played that way. So it kind of gives you an advantage to a degree when you're doing something that other people don't do.

ISU will never beat out the other schools in the Big 12 playing the same way they do.

I mean basically that's what Ferentz is doing it Iowa this year. That team is horrible without Breathhard.

Just going to throw this out there.
Bo Pelini.
I don't think anyone at ISU would mind his antics if he was winning 9 games a year.
Plus, it would **** off or neighbors to the West!

Since this is just a "putting it out there" thread, here are some ideas.

If we are looking for a shake-up Big 12 hire, why not poach Art Briles' son Kendal Briles? Currently the O-Coordinator for Baylor. He has been coaching for 8 years now, QB coach as well. Would help in TEXAS recruitment since it is well publicized that his father and him have many ties to the high school ranks all over Texas. The thing is, he is super "young" though. (I believe he is 32).

Pros: 1) I love the idea from taking him away from Art and stirring up a little rivalry to perhaps get us some better recruits. 2) Helps us big time for Texas recruitment. Most importantly, Kendal recruits QB's. 3) Pretty good background developing a system for Baylor the past couple of years, especially with QB play.

Cons: 1) Again, pretty young guy. 2) Would be another "coordinator" hire. But I really think ISU needs a recruiter and someone with an offensive philosophy that has proven to work. (ISU would really need a highly detailed description from him on his plans of recruitment/who he will need as his coordinators/ and still be able to recruit JUCO here in the midwest.)

Others:

Along with other posters on here, I too believe that Bo Pelini needs to be contacted as well. The guy freaking wins, that is ALL that matters to me. Development and recruitment and selling of our institution can be done with Bo leading the way. If one thing, he would instill that mindset/culture from day one. ISU needs something totally different. Winning cures all, and ISU needs a proven "winner." If Bo wants to get back to the Power 5 level, he's probably going to have to look in the mirror and realize that he threw away a golden opportunity recently. He's not going to get the "high-level P5" type of program at this point. Why not build up ISU? We have a strong fan support, great facilities, great conference and school to promote. He could get it done.

Coaches that should be contacted:

Mack Brown
Justin Fuente
Tom Herman
Matt Wells
