There's another thing/reason, the midwest/Iowa people are great. I do live in southern MO however. I do not care for the cold winters. Thank god for air-conditioning though!
Yeah I lived in South Florida for a few years and then traveled for work all over the country and there's no doubt that the Midwest is where the nicest people are.

I thought the same thing until I did 10 years in the south. Liked the work, but they're still fighting the war. Will never go back. Taking people over weather
But you're right, to each their own.

The people of iowa, way better than your typical tennessean for sure. I live in a blue dot though. I'm isolated from most of the bars and stars trash people.

I still remember reading about the recruiting of Terrence Allen early in the Orr era. Short kid but with hops!

From Riviera Beach FL (basically West Palm Beach). It was one of those bitterly cold winter days and they're driving up from the airport. The coach picking him up is very concerned wondering what Terrence in thinking about the bare trees and brown corn fields along the way. Terrence pipes up and says, "I think I'm going to go to college here."

You never can tell. Some kids want to experience an all new environment just for the change. I can understand that and we should actually maybe sell it as something to Southern kids. Obviously not all are going to bite, but it might give a kid a new perspective about experiencing new things in life.

This will date me, but I was at ISU in the mid 80's with my 1st year, T's senior year. We had a basketball reffing .5 credit PE class together. We spent half the class studying the Iowa High School rule book, then the other half on the court. We would play pick-up 5 on 5, two people would ref, and the other two were on the sideline getting commentary from the teacher (Gary Greenlee now head of REC athletic facilities at ISU). Our final exam was the test to get licensed, and we had to ref three Intramural games, get video-taped and then get feedback. Great class. One time we were practicing jump balls and I had to jump against T. He wasn't short, roughly 6', but he had GREAT hops, at least compared to my liability of low hops on a 6'3" frame. it was truly laughable trying to jump against T. Quiet guy, but really nice.

Us Ohioans appreciate your love!

According to this very scientific poll, looks like Iowa is the most Midwestern state and Ohio is very borderline Midwestern. Aren't you guys Mideast or mid Atlantic or something like that? ;)

I live in the south (nashville). This won't be a popular opinion, but living in the south (in terms of climate) is way better than living in iowa. You can still do things in the summer. Much like northern folks acclimating to the cold, southern folks acclimate to the heat. Saying how much worse MN is than Iowa doesn't make Iowa winters any more desirable IMO. They both suck. I hate the cold. It was a major factor in me leaving the midwest for greener pastures in terms of weather. To each their own. Give me the heat all day over the Iowa cold.
You're right... to each their own. I travel (when border is open) to Winnipeg and western Canada quite a bit for work. All I will say in Ames/Minneapolis does not know what cold is. I struggled at first. I will NEVER live there, but I learned to embrace and adapt. I never took risks and went the extra mile in my preparations with extra clothes, etc and added a block heater, the right tires, etc so that my vehicle as ready as possible. The cold is no joke up there but neither is 100F with 100% humidity... if you're not prepared. And... it's gorgeous up there for the 4 months it's not -35F (Ceclius = Farenheit at this temp BTW):p

I was travelling regularly from Des Moines to Minneapolis for work in a former role. I was complaining to my boss at the time, a Canadian, about how cold it was in the Twin Cities. He laughed and said, "I am from 1,000 miles Northwest of here!"

Im a proud buckeye who lives in Ohio which is a midwest state. You west coast fanatics!@@#$%&*
If a state is entirely in the Eastern time zone, it's not in the Midwest. Hell, Ohio is a full state away from being in the Central timezone. I could maybe give you a "Mid" US designation, but Ohio fails the "West" part on all counts.
