3 Up
1) Matt Shaw is already the best 3B in the Hoyer era
2) Dansby looked good
3) Pitching didn’t give up much hard contact

3 Down
1) Pitchers walked everybody
2) Berti is dog ****. Pay mid, get mid.
3) Bats did not adjust well to the splitter at all

This is probably true by default on Shaw, but he was 0-4 with two SO and an error.

Not going to over-react too much about 1st game of the year. The pitching was a bit concerning with 8 total walks. I do think Shota got squeezed a couple times on what should have been strike calls that wound up being ball 3 but otherwise he looked pretty good and was missing bats with his pitches. Brown probably didn't do himself any favors today to make the 26 man roster when they get back to the US. I didn't get to see Morgan and Brasier pitch as had to listen to the end of the game on the radio on the drive into work.

Just 3 hits 1 walk and 9 K's for the offense. I get the Dodgers are loaded but their offense had 7 hits and 8 walks so they were definitely the more patient hitters at the plate today. Berti and Shaw had terrible throws to 1B that Busch had no chance at. Just felt like the same old Cubs from the past 2 seasons again. Again, just 1 game but 1 team looked much more disciplined today than the other did.

When Ohtani touched his helmet after the first pitch of the game, it took me a minute to remember there are no ball/strike challenges.

This has to be the last year of that.

Well I had nearly forgotten how infuriating the Cubs are. Thanks for the early season reminder!

Not that it’s going to matter but what the hell was that? Clearly fan interference. MLB wasn’t leaving Japan without Shohei getting his homer

Berti looking like All-Star today- 3-3. SB & helped turn 2 DP's

Seeing why Dodgers win WS. No Freeman or Betts. But get HRs from guys like Edman & Kiki H. Plus the guy on the Dodger Pension Plan hit 1 too.

Good thing we have 160 more!

Umpire valued his life, no way taking a HR away from Ohtani.

But Seriously, noticed a white line below the railing, curious if it's automatically a HR if above. But besides that, the ball looked at the railing when the fan tried to catch and ricocheted back onto field.

Kiki was the 2nd best acquisition last year behind Ohtani. Guy is so clutch for them. He is the glue

Guys like Ohtani, Judge, Trout are elite and worth the free agent spend. But has always been my belief that WS are won by mid-tier free agent professional hitters like Kike Hernandez. Guys that hit .240 and SO 3x in a game with bases empty. But they are .333 hitters with game on line and RISP.

Hope guys like Turner, Kelly and Berti can be those guys for the Cubs in 2025.

Guys like Dexter Fowler and Ben Zobrist kind of fit that bill. Big clutch hits when we needed them in 2015 and 2016 but neither were super star type players. We've been missing glue guys like that ever since. We've had stretches over the years where it felt like our offense was capable but we didn't have guys that knew how to hit with RISP and we were one of the worst teams with leaving runners on base. I'm not sure we have that kind of guy on our current roster right now to be honest.
