Indiana and BYU are grossly underrated....I think BYU by way of a tougher resume and better wins should be ahead of Indiana as of right now.

But of Texas and Penn State, who have they beaten that's of any note? BYU has two ranked wins over other CFP ranked teams (the ranking now is more important than if you beat a then T25 Michigan who we now know is fraudulent).
If Indiana would play someone, I'd agree with you.

Not saying they aren't good. But they shouldn't be ahead of BYU or even in the top 8.

Are we looking at resume here, or are we doing the eye test? Of course Indiana has going to look great with who've they played.

Yeah Indiana's "eye test" is great and I do think they are a really good team. But BYU is also undefeated with better wins and a tougher SOS. But both BYU and Indiana are being screwed because they aren't name brands.

The rankings make no sense. How BYU is at 9 yet a team like Indiana with a far worse resume is ranked ahead of them is beyond me. One can say that Indiana passes the eye test. Well sure, they're beating up on trash teams. Their best win is Washington? Nebraska who just lost to UCLA at home? Come on now.

And if they want to talk "eye test" how is Miami #4. They've been barely scraping by. Beat one ranked team in Louisville while BYU beat two. Texas has 1 loss, who have they beaten? Who has Penn State beaten and do they really pass the eye test?

Man, I don't know. I think BYU continues to be shafted and, yes, it matters because these initial rankings indicate to me that they have no room for error now. A 1 loss BYU team is likely out now.

and the sad part is BYU could beat Utah this weekend (we all know Utah is not great right now), and if LSU beats Bama, LSU is going to shoot past BYU as a 2 loss team

I think at this point I hope ISU wins out and beats an undefeated BYU, then SMU beats an undefeated Miami. It's then that the committee will have no justification for their rankings except shrugging and admitting it's a television product when all hell breaks loose.

Yep, that's the problem with this ranking and why BYU has to go undefeated or win the Conference Championship to make the playoff. If they had rightfully been placed at 5 or 6, they might have been able to afford one loss but at 9 teams in name brand conferences will just shoot right by them.

You know what's crazy about this? A team like Indiana that has absolute zero on their resume will still likely get into the playoff as a 1 loss team if they lose to Ohio State (especially if it's close) because....Big 10 but a 1 loss BYU is almost certainly out.

Two things:

1.) Those SEC teams between 11-17 should eliminate themselves. Ole Miss plays UGa and LSU plays Bama this weekend. Ole Miss has to win and LSU vs Bama is an elimination game imo. A&M has to play at Texas too. I don’t see the Aggies winning that

2.) The fact that Warde Manuel kept using “explosive offense” as a reasoning to rank teams higher is an ABSOLUTE JOKE. There’s two sides of the ball in football. If you’re going to do that you need to come up with a NET-metric that takes into account all aspects of the game.

Notre Dame is playing pretty well but losing to Northern Illinois should be like losing 1.5 games. That's by far the worst defeat of anybody in the top 15.

Indiana is the more interesting narrative. That's what the committee saw and what the national media saw. Seemingly everyone jumped on the Indiana is getting screwed narrative before they realized that BYU was the real loser in the first rankings. A Big 10 team will always get preference over a team out west in a new conference that nobody respects.

Remember when everyone was saying that the AP poll didn't matter since it's not the CFP poll? Then the polls are basically identical...

So after all the madness of yesterday/last night I finally was able to look more into this and listen to the reactions. There’s like 2 people in the media who are even mentioning BYU being ranked lower than they should be. EVERYONE is pounding the table for Indiana who is ranked higher than BYU despite having the worst sos by far in the top 12 teams and zero top 25 wins.

Indiana does have a gripe, for sure, but the fact that BYU is hardly mentioned by the media tells more of the story in the big picture than big brand bias screwing Indiana.

End rant.

There’s been way more than 2 media members.

There’s the linked ESPN article from David Hale. Greg McIlroy went on a long rant on the show in support of BYU. Ross Dellenger did a blind resume tweet last night in support of BYU. Joel Klatt talked BYU this morning on local Denver media. I think Pat Forde and Dan Wetzel promote BYU on their pod (I haven’t listened, I just saw it referenced in a tweet). Sheehan Jeyerajah from CBS Sports Brandon Walker of Barstool, even Nicole Auerbach all tweeted support for BYU.

Let's say that we drop a game and CU wins out in the regular season but loses in the Big 12 Championship to an undefeated BYU...this would have BYU being the auto bid...would 10-3 CU get in? You know the playoff committee would LOVE for Deion Sanders to be in the CFP
If CU got in after losing in Championship game - the farce “eye test” rankings would explode.

That's the only reason Indiana is ahead of BYU, because they play in the Big 10.
Eye test is such a dumb argument too because beating up on bad teams shouldn't be the entire resume of a #8 team in the nation. That's the only "selling point" of their resume that they blew out 4 loss Nebraska and Washington teams, at home. It's lunacy

The more I look at the rankings, the more I have a problem with them. I would have:

1. Oregon
2. BYU
3. Miami
4. Indiana
5. Georgia
6. SMU
7. Notre Dame
8. Ohio State
9. Boise State
10. Tennessee
11. Texas
12. Penn State

Pitt and Washington State would be my next two knocking on the door. Without all the bias, I think this is where you land.
