They are high level athletes, they are already conditioned. Rest will do them more good than playing Lipsey 35 minutes against Florida A&M. Omaha needs to be thrown into the fire the next 3 weeks otherwise I'm afraid it could be a lost season for him. We are already 25% done.

So they should just be conditioned automatically because they're good athletes?

I dont know where you're going with this but TJ needs to throw him out there extensively between now and New Years. He needs minutes and experience to build confidence.

I think we found something last night. We won't be the defensive juggernaut we've been the past two years under TJ (really missing Gabes defense). With that said, our small lineup was really effective offensively last playing. Playing one of Rob and Tre at the 5 with Milan and 3 guards looks to be a good scoring lineup.
The small lineup was fun to watch last night, offensively, but has obvious problems with defense and rebounding.
When Ward gets back i think we're going to see a team that will transition back and forth between big and small as needed.
This.

Lipsey hasn't played 35 minutes in any of our home non conference games. His high is 32 with the other three being in the mid 20s.

Then he didn't live up to his billing and stars, happens all the time in sports. The kid has talent, but I am wondering if they would have not been better off Red Shirting him this year to have him work on his offensive game, because right now, he is running on eggshells out there and we are playing 4 on 5 offensively with him in the game.
That's what is disappointing. I don't care what he does offensively but he was heralded as this athletic freak who was great defensively and on the boards. Watch him play he is lost of defensive and gets beat on rebounds. For someone who is billed as athletic he is unintentionally on ground alot.

Physically he might be there but he isn't processing mentally where to be or what to do.

Hope he turns it around but he is a liability right now. I know the only way for him to get better is for him to play but we have players (Watson) who should be getting more mins than him atm.

One other thing I noticed was it looked like TJ was urging the guys to push the ball on the sidelines. seemed like we pushed the ball a lot and got quite a few east transition buckets. Pav was super effective in the open court. Obviously DePaul being bad helped with it but I think that's another facet of the game this group of guys can be pretty good at

I think when DePaul went on their 13-0 (or something) scoring run, KG - along with a few other Cyclones - were "out of control." After that, he settled in very well and had a HUGE game. I really believe that Pav's energy/presence helped us overcome that atrocious section to the 1st half & was key to that huge run to start the 2nd half. Lipsey was consistently good throughout the game.
Ya I agree. Thug Lyfe 2.0 was a huge factor this game. TJ clearly felt the same and gave him more time.

Pav had a couple silly turnovers, but loved the way he controlled the team and made shots when he got in the lane.

I
I really need to go back to NOT reading game threads, even after a win.

We could be 45 pts up on Kansas with 3 minutes left in the game, and some of you would be finding fault.

Frustration with a loss is one thing. Finding all kinds of fault with a win is just plain stupid.
I get your sentiment but this thread isn't really outrageous considering how the tournament went.

He played 23 vs. Lindenwood and Omaha got 17 minutes.

Other games for Omaha according to the ESPN site with numbers:

Grambling: 20 minutes.
Idaho State: 13 minutes.
Green Bay: 13

Watson was like 12-15 minutes in each game too.

We've seen Pav's minutes go up and his play warrants it. But to just look at CJones shooting percentages is ignoring the other aspects of the game. He has played good defense and handles the ball well. How many TOs/minute does he have? (I haven't looked, but I think his rate is low.) And being 2/2 from 3 IS "decent."
He will be needed this season, as will Pav.
Yeah absolutely Jones is the better defender and I’m fine with him getting minutes due to that. However in the FL tournament he went 3-19 from 3 over those 3 games. You simply can’t be shooting that much, that poorly, if you’re on the floor because of your defense.

And he didn't do that last night. TJ addressed it in an interview last week and apparently stuck with it in a game. That tournament may have been exactly what TJ needed to say 'see? This is why we keep talking about this' over last week.

Free throws, bad shooting/offensive possessions and lapses in defense were also major factors in the two losses last week. Heck free throws might be the biggest even with how bad other things went.

He seemed to be looking more comfortable by about the 4th non-con game but the uptick in competition seems to have set him back again.
