I find it strange that on the OSU message board there are (so far) 39 bets that they cover the 6.5 point spread and only one for Iowa State. They also have eight bets that the game will go over the 141.5 over/under while nobody thinks it will be under. All this being said, all their posts are saying how they need to keep the game low scoring. Hmmm...

If that over happens, we're marching on.

I have awakened in a no-fear mode.

Statistically speaking, Ohio State just does not have overwhelming firepower.

Of course, scoring wise, it all starts with Craft, who is a tough adequate scorer, especially when OSU's offense is clicking. He is a solid passer and decision maker, but not necessarily an overwhelming play-maker. Buckeye scoring all starts and ends with Deshaun Thomas. But the Buckeye's offensive potency actually depends a lot on sophomore Sam Thompson getting going along with Thomas, who is going to get his because he puts up a lot of shots.

Sam Thompson is the wildcard. He is hot right now and playing with confidence. Also, his high shooting percentages for the season clearly stand out among the shooting percentages of the rest of the Buckeye players. Thompson has nice touch and at 6'7, his body, skill-set, and his game are somewhat comparable to Will Clyburn, but Thompson plays more of a "glue guy" role for the Buckeyes than Clyburn does for ISU. He shoots 40% from 3 point range and 51% from the field. In postseason play, Sam Thompson is averaging 13.8 ppg.

Deshaun Thomas is a high volume scorer, and a very good one, especially lately. But Thomas doesn't shoot a particularly high overall percentage at 44% (lurking OSU fans will say its Big 10 defense), although he does have an effective 3 point percentage at 34% considering how many 3-point attempts he puts up. Thomas has attempted 71 more three point shots than Lenzelle Smith who ranks 2nd on the team in 3-point attempts. Craft shoots a pedestrian 29% from 3 point range. Lenzelle Smith, Jr. is a good 3 point shooter at 37%, but his game inside the 3 point arc is more limited than his bigger body for a guard would suggest. Almost half of Lenzelle Smith, Jr's field goal attempts have been from beyond the arc, and he doesn't shoot a good overall FG% at 43% despite the high percentage he shoots from 3.

I watched OSU v. Wisconsin in the B10 championship and OSU played small a lot in that game. I remember thinking "I hope we don't end up playing OSU in the tourney." I think this is a really tough match-up for us. We can beat anyone in the country. But to knock these guys off, we're going to really have to limit turnovers, REBOUND, and keep key players out of foul trouble (Ejim, Niang, Babb). If we win those battles, I think we advance.

I watched that game too, and Wisconsin had a lot of wide open shots. OSU plays great defense, but in that game, Wisconsin just missed their shots. I suppose there is a tendency to rush things when you're not open as often as you're used to.

I never do this, but I LOVE Fred Hoiberg and how he runs his program. Dropping by to wish you all good luck. I have followed the job Hoiberg has done at ISU, and he is as classy as they come. Best of luck today all. Enjoy the game.

Thanks- your guys seem to carry themselves pretty well too. I'd wish you luck too, but I wouldn't mean it.

We don't ever want to "wish luck" upon another team; luck is the intangible that turns a game in the direction of a team that doesn't really deserve it. To our new friend, Buckfan, I respond with a hearty "Play Well"!

I'm not prepared to go that far lol. But I'm sure both teams will, and will leave it all on the floor.

I wouldn't even say that.
I will respond to Buckfan by saying "I appreciate the good luck, but I hope your team has horrible luck today and plays like crap. Although, I do hope for an injury free game on both sides."

I am setting the over/under on the number of times they screw up the names of Ohio State and Iowa State during the broadcast at 5.5.

We don't have that many difficult names other than Bubu and even that is pretty easy so I'm going to have take the under.

Edit: Sorry! I see what you were getting at. Still asleep I guess. :wideeyed:
