As bad as this team played there is no reason that game should have been that close. The staff has some work to do. Get some movement on offense and get Young more PT. They had their chances to win.
Part of the lack of ball movement is that as soon as Burton gets the ball all progress stops. He's always look for his shot instead of working the offense for a better look. I don't think our offensive sets are what Prohm and the staff have drawn up.

I enjoyed reading the post game KU Phog board. They're rejoicing like they just won the National Championship. We're a bubble team at best, yet they're popping champagne corks. Some serious insecurity with that group.

I can't see enough of what's going on but I don't see enough of a difference in the other team's production when Young is out there vs. not being out there, i.e. the defense is non existent either way, and at least SOME size would maybe help, and perhaps create something that the defense had to pay attention to on the other end.

Let's hope for a win in Norman to back on track, but that's going to be a real tricky game as well.
And if anyone wants to think it's a gimme this weekend, they need reminded that OU was actually able to have a lead vs. KU last week.

We are what we are. We've got some talent but we're not a great, or possibly even good team. We lack height which hurts, but we also lack the ability or urgency to make up for it with hustle and fundamentals on rebounds. We spend way too much time launching jumpers and getting behind when we're much better when we penetrate. I don't know what we can do about the non stop lobs over the top, but our help defense on drives and isos was awful. Basically we're losing for all the same reasons we were in November and December and when you're a third of the way through the conference season you aren't going to change. Credit to KU. They're better than us but certainly not invincible. They saw what worked and went to it almost the whole game.

People can say whatever they want about Self. I'd take him in a heartbeat. I still haven't figured Prohm out. We have limitations, many of which are a result of Fred's (lack of) recruiting. Sometimes I think he's doing the best he can, but other times I wonder if he's in over his head. As with most things, the truth probably lies somewhere in between. Hopefully he'll show his coaching chops when we get some depth and interior play in the years to come.

I hate it for our seniors. Those guys have bled for this program and given me some amazing moments I'll remember for a long time. No matter how things go from here on out, I'm proud that they were Cyclones...unfortunately their final season is looking pretty forgettable. (Now, go win 12 in a row and make me look like a total dumbass.

Kansas can get by running the "4 guard" lineup as they have stud athletes that play the 3 and 4 and also have a legit big guy with Lucas.

We are running with 1 PG, 2 SG, 1 SF, and 1 PF if you want to call Bowie that. That isn't going to work real well.

I've been a Holden hater this year as He hasn't been good this year, but we got 0 contributions from Bowie and Young tonight. Holden at least provides more size. Why not try him down low.

The sky is falling!

It wasn't so bad, we only lost by four!

Am I doing this right?

Sky isn't falling, we still can win out at Hilton and finish 9-9 or better in the league. The issue is, we have no margin for error because we don't have a single good win yet on our resume. Close losses to good teams aren't enough. In previous years, we had at least one quality non-con win to protect ourselves. I'm not sure people realize how much behind the 8-ball we are with regard to RPI. Our best wins are Miami and Tech, and at most one of those teams is making the tourney.

I think that you see a very different team and attitude next year. These are still Fred's guys.

I mean, how can you criticize Prohm for defense after what we saw under Fred?

I'm not convinced Prohm is running his offense. I thinknit is iso ball and mismatch by necessity. We have no ther option than Deonte.

Well if he's not, then why not? He's been here a year and a half now, he should have his stamp on the program by now.

Burton reminds me of Rudy Gay. Not really similar type players, but guys who are the 2nd best players on their teams. There's times were both players help their teams more when they are off the court. Both of them have lots of talent but play iso-ball and don't get others involved as much as the 2nd best player on the team should. There was a play late where Burton had a guy wide open in the corner (Babb?) and instead drove it might into the defense, turning the ball over.

I'm not pinning the loss on Burton, he's had worse games. There's a lot of players recruited by Prohm that aren't working out, especially in the post. Blame Fred all you want, but Prohm has responsibility too. Kansas would just post Lucas or Jackson up and were getting easy baskets most of the time.

Because it's still not good. Going from bad to a better form of bad doesn't make it beyond criticism

We are an above average team and consistent rebounding is what kills us and will kill us all year. Regarding Lard, my thoughts are only if he is killing it in practice and rebounding well. It's time to play him. Look at it this way, either he's REALLY good and the real deal and can help this team and be the x-factor in a deep run. If he is that good, what's the chances of him sticking around his whole time? Would mostly likely declare early for the draft. If he's not good, we'll add him to the bench of our poorly recruited big men. It's just not fair to guy's like Monte to not play the best players you have for the "future" in today's college basketball the future is never clear.

Young does good things out there. Good things happen when he is on the court. He was getting outworked tonight after only a few mins of being in the game.

Agreed. Small ball is fine, but we're playing tiny ball.

Small ball with 3 guards, 1 6'6" wing, and a 6'9" beast in the paint is one thing, but you're going to be out-gunned in the B12 with a line up that averages 6'3".

I don't either. Outside of a couple minutes where he knocked down a couple shots in a row against Texas he's looked exactly how I would expect a freshman to look in conference play.
