I've got a big hunch that after some losses the Greene thing falling through will come up like it was TJ's fault that AJ was maybe just ready to move on.
Yep - Even if it isn't tagged as "recruiting miss/coach fault," I hope we move past the AJ Greene difference-maker narrative now that we've had like 3 months to adjust to it.

I will pretty much guarantee this doesn’t happen. His dad is on staff for crying out loud.

This team will be fine, but he definitely would have been a difference maker.

I won't dispute that, that's my general feeling, my comment came off heavy-handed.

I do feel like when we struggle to score it's going to come up a lot and I want to move from what-if to what-is. (Not directed at you, it's a general assessment).

Lipsey now has four turnovers against twelve assists through the first three games. Although the competition has not been stellar, that’s pretty impressive for a true freshman. He is not a big scorer, but that is not his role. I imagine the staff is very pleased with how he is transitioning from high school to D1 basketball.

Lipsey’s 3pt percentage at Ames was 34% in his career and 22% his senior year. He has some major improvement needed for him to really be any sort of scoring threat beyond driving into the paint and drawing fouls.
We saw what the defense will do when he doesn't try to score, and I agree, I think the prescription for that is to drive the lane and make the defense react. Hopefully open up some of the other guys or draw a foul. He's got the physique to finish too. I think that last three attempt was a "I don't really want to shoot it, but I'm supposed to shoot it." He'll get more comfortable as the games go on.

AJ Green is a grown ass adult and can make his own decisions. Him not coming to ISU is not an ISU problem, it's an AJ Green wants to play in the NBA problem.

99.9% of people on this forum have moved on from that. He was never on the team, and never truly wanted to be on the team. It was only ever a backup option if he didn't make the NBA.

That and practice spot up 3's. If teams are going to fall that far off, he can shoot a set-shot from 3.

I noticed Lipsey was left open around the 3 point line several times last night and he didn't bother to shoot it except for 1 attempt late in the game that he airballed. So guessing 3 point shooting is not going to be his thing as he's 0-3 right now (all from last night actually 0 attempts in 1st 2 games) and defense last night was practically daring him to shoot it at times it felt like. I'm not expecting Lipsey to be much of a scorer this year, he looks fine on defense and running the point which is all I can hope for a true freshman to be a good ball distributor all things considered right now.

Not trying to pile on Grill but just don't think he's going to be the type of 3 point shooter we had all hoped for. Once Gabe is healthy would like to see him get more of Grill's minutes on nights Grill is not shooting well as Gabe seems to have a higher ceiling as a scorer than Grill and while Grill does play good defense Gabe last year was supposedly our best on-ball defender.
To be fair we've only played home games this year so far. Grill just needs to sit those out and wait until away games where he can go off 4-5 from three.

He doesn't even have to shoot a 3. If he just took one dribble and pulled up for a jumper a couple feet inside the arc that would at least make the defense respect him. I know analytically a 3 is better but that's on average. If he can't shoot 3s yet but is comfortable with a long midrange I'd rather have him take that.

That one bounce before the shot could definitely help his rhythm vs a set shot outside the arc.

He has played better than I thought he would. I think he will struggle against the upcoming quickness and athleticism. Growing pains are going to be somewhat inevitable. He needs to be able to hit a wide open jump shot. Milwaukee dared him to shoot. Then he fired an air ball.
