Remember Iowa State starts off slow. They will get better as the season goes.
This is encouraging, after a 32 point win.
New grass looks excellent, too. :)
I was looking for chunks, didn't see any. Yes, a great job.

ISU could start a sod business and probably do pretty well!

Punter averaged almost 47 yards per kick. That's not bad results. I think he went 50, 42, and 48 for the game.
That'll work.
Really hopeful we can have a strong kick / punting game, with the freshmen!

Keeping a very grounded view of this game. With the exception of the last couple of minutes of the first half, this game was basically on lock down, which is something we don’t get to say often in season openers. But, just as I said mockingly in the KU thread, I want to see us do this against a real team.

I will say this - unlike spot duties the past few years, Dekkers looked really good today. Honestly, he looked better than Purdy did last year. But, once again, I want to see it against a real defense.
One thing, even I noticed, with Hunter. He stays in the pocket and has great field awareness. I remember specifically one play where he could have run, but just threw it away. Maybe a 'get em the next time' mentality.

Brock would have scrambled on quite a few more of those plays. Take that for what it's worth, after one game. But Hunter is there to sling it. He can do it too.

Props to the SEMO QB, Paxton DeLaurent today: coming from NAIA to Jack Trice, I thought he showed good composure, resiliency, some nice touch on the ball and an ability to make plays w/his legs. He had a respectable 11.7 yds/completion, QBR of 65.9 and 74 rushing yards on 12 carries vs a pretty good Cyclone defense that had 7 PBUs, a pick and 8 QB hurries.

By contrast ToE QB Spencer Petras was 11/25 for 109 yds, no TD and 1 INT, yielding a QBR of 40.25 today.... I know he was missing some key skill players, but that is not an excuse for that absolute hot garbage performance.
I thought Paxton D did a really nice job, also. He could be a huge plus for them this year.

Soooo, as someone who is decidedly altitudinally challenged, I am here to say that I have a new "Mister Touchdown" hero to follow.

Let's hear it for #22!!!
Agree. Hard not to like #22, notice (easy to miss) him yes. I kept thinking to myself, whenever he got the ball, boy, I'll bet he's hard for the defenders to see, hiding behind those linemen! :p

I think Dekkers knows he doesn't have the mobility that Purdy has and doesn't try to pretend that he does. From the one time I saw him escape the pocket, tuck the ball and run with it, to me it looks like he has the mobility to escape a dead play and make something out of nothing, but not the mobility to extend plays like Purdy did. You're not going to see Dekkers try to make a defender eat a pump fake 20 yards past the LoS (and succeed most of the time) - but you're also not going to see Dekkers dig his grave even deeper trying to extend a dead play like Purdy would do sometimes, either.

I was in sec V 1st row. I thought it got tipped. The ball looked like it was rotating the opposite it normally does. Could be wrong though. I had a few Fireballs in the parking lot.ting partners
Hm, minty (cinnamon) fresh breath. Thanks for being a good neighbor to your stadium sitting partners! :)

Yesterday the broadcast had a graphic showing ISU's schedule and for whatever reason it omitted TCU in the finale at Dallas. I failed to figure out that TCU was missing while it was shown and was crazy confused how ISU only had 3 B12 road games.
It also said the West Virginia game was December 5 (although it was still on the list between October 29 and November 12)

I believe TCU forfeited after seeing our amazing offensive performance. :)

I guess maybe it depends on how you define "mobility", but Dekkers looks like a better athlete than Purdy. Purdy was crafty and deceptive, but it looks like Dekkers has better acceleration and top end speed. He did have a Purdyesque reverse spin out of backside pressure yesterday.
