This team is just so confusing to me. We just play very ugly basketball for the most part, but yet at times you get the feeling that if we ever put it all together we'd be extremely dangerous. Then at other times we look like the Bad News Bears of college basketball and can't get out of our own way.

Game to game I have no idea what to predict from this group at all. Most of it depends on if we get the good Deonte or the bad Deonte probably. If we get good Deonte and we get good outside shooting from Naz and Matty Ice, I think we can beat anyone. If we get bad Deonte and Naz and Matt struggle from the outside, then bad teams like Iowa can beat us. It's an uneasy feeling.

I always felt like with Niang we'd always be pretty competitive. I don't get that feeling with these guys at all.
What are you talking about? Baylor will be #1 next week and we lost to them by 2 pt. Gonzaga will be 2 or 3, and we lost to them by 2. So we lost to two of the top 3 teams in the country by a total of 4 points. In fact, the only horrible game we played was Iowa - not a good choice of games to go flat in, but it is what it is. And we have won when Burton was almost invisible. So, I do not know which team you are talking about, but it sure isn't the Cyclones I'm following.

good to get the win, but yikes, a lot of ugly moments in that game.
Ugliest moment was when you started ragging on Prohm. He made good adjustments tonight; reacted to Shaka. Reacted to how we were playing. He had our guys come out for the 2nd half on fire. Yes, they sagged, but they held strong to the end and won. They did not collapse. I do not get the hate directed at Prohm. Makes absolutely no sense at all.

Way up there
Loved Deonte's approach tonight- attacked the lane and passed up some decent shots for better ones for himself or his teammates. When he is playing like this, with great shot selection and finding open guys, ISU is going to be tough to beat.
I really love watching Jackson out there. His intensity on D is so awesome and his ball pressure has been key to some big runs the last three games.

I think the biggest improvement from DB was how he moved without the ball, most of his points came after he cut or spotted up and received a good pass from the guards who were driving and dishing. After he made a few shots, his confidence level rose and he started making plays for the guys around him.

Completely agree about Jackson as well, he doesn't shot or score much but he's always making the play that makes the next play. Seems like he played the last 10 minutes or so of the game. Clearly Prohm has a lot of confidence in him as well. IMO we are at our best when he and Monte are on the floor together.

I find that when they're moving the ball well - like they did for most of the game - and are getting out in transition, that it is beautiful basketball to watch. Plus the defensive effort is there and I appreciate that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course. But they can be a bit confounding; I agree.

Their game-planning vs. Baylor and Texas also seemed to be a strength.

Jackson and Morris had quite a few hockey assists as Naz, Matt and especially Burton were making the extra pass for some great looks. There was a stretch when UT clawed back in that was concerning, but those runs happen, and overall these guys seem to be figuring things out.

Agree - I thought Prohm took his timeouts at good times to stem Texas runs - even though the team is full of seniors you still need to take a time out sometimes just to stop a run.

This. I always laugh when people just think that basketball works like this (especially conference games no matter who you are playing, this isn't the Big Ten:

1)Come out with a huge chip on shoulder and bully other team to get 11-3 lead.
2)Build lead to at least 20-7 by 10 minute mark
3)work clock so you get last shot of the half through final 10 minutes and have a stellar possession resulting in an easy layup to go up by 16 heading in to the break
4)come out 2nd half much like first, winning adjustments made at halftime, build lead to 20 and don't allow it to go under 17 until 3 minutes left
5)WHY ISNT CARTER/EDOZIE/PERCY in the game
6) burn clock every possession, make 90% of our FT's down the stretch and end up winning by 19 in a game that we never trailed in and led by double digits for 37 minutes

Cincy has also only lost one since we played them (at Butler) and only two overall (both on the road to teams ranked at the time).

We also played like total garbage against Drake too.

I will agree that this team is better than I probably give them credit for, I just think they can be so much better. So many missed FT's is inexcusable. Not scoring a single point in the last 2 1/2 mins of a game and losing by 2 is inexcusable also-- I don't care that it was on the road against the #2 team in the country... you HAVE to find a way to win that game.

We desperately need Thomas to get back to 100% healthy and start knocking down shots IMO. He's a senior and has been here for 4 years. He needs to be providing more for us and I'm confident he can.

I know I'm being a bit nitpicky here, but I see potential in this team that I don't think is being realized yet. I think our program should be at a point right now where the NCAA tourney is expected every year and it's just a matter of how good a seed we get. If we truly think we're a basketball school, that should be the expectation. But here we are as one of the more experienced teams in the country wondering if we can make the tourney or not.

I think we'll make it, but we've already dropped too many opportunities for wins we should have had, so now it is definitely in question. Never should have lost to Iowa, and should have won at least one or two of those games against Cincy, Gonzaga, or Baylor. I know they are all ranked teams, but when you are that close, you have to pick off one or two of those somehow.

Exactly basketball is a game of runs and people seem to forget that. A guy in the row ahead of me was getting so pissed because we weren't winning by 20+, he needs to realize this is the Big 12 every game is going to be a tough contest and get some perspective.

Overall, what I love to see with this team is that they play hard. As the TT coach said, the mark of a good coach is how hard CSP has them playing on D.
I hope as the season plays out Young can increase minutes, Jackson and Babb continue to show they belong on the court, and the Big 4 hit the shots we know they can make.

Agree. If you watch a lot of other conferences games, you'll see similar things. Its just hard to blow out a team, regardless. Depaul, Big East bottom feeder, just two weeks ago they were within one possession of winning at #1 Villanova.

I can hear it already if we struggle at Okie State Wed.... They are on the bottom, we should do this, this and this against them. Well....there's a reason they hung with Baylor last night, beat Wichita State, and have the record they do. Cowboys are starved for a conference win (0-3 and have to go to KU next). Think we're going into a hornet's nest. Will take a 'very' good performance by us both offensively and defensively, imo

Dead on. No matter how many basketball games people watch, they think if you're shooting less than 60% and the other team is shooting more than 30% that your team is playing poorly.

We have almost always played horribly against Drake. Count on that being the case forever.

I don't think Thomas can get back to 100% physically. Pretty sure bone spurs don't go away on their own. He'll give it everything he can though, as always.

They do have room to improve. Fortunately, it's Jan. 8th, and we seem to be back on a positive trajectory. Looks like Prohm is finally figuring out how to adjust to our limitations.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. I never said anything about Prohm.

I was not happy with getting a 14 point lead and then turning the ball over or taking horrible shot for 5 minutes, but that was all on the players. Sometimes the complete lack of focus by the players is shocking.
