I gotcha. I just tire of hearing the "easy" excuse some (not you necessarily) use to justify mob behavior.

Like those dopes shown on the paper.....if they get a sanction by the school (or others do, like kicked out), I don't want to hear how their future is ruined as they were "just being kids having fun
As others have said, videos, phone cameras, twitter make it ALOT easier to document this behavior and prosecute.
I wondered if people would misinterpret what I meant. I'm not saying the Ames PD is to blame but they could have avoided it by routing the busted party in a direction away from Welch. Happened in 2004, happened again this year.

This. Ultimately those involved are responsible for their actions, but the university and taxpayers of ames should also be asking of the police why lessons werent learned from before that would have decreased the chances of an embarrassing repeat. The police in any city arent just there to make arrests, theyre there for prevention as well, especially when it comes to matters of crowd control.

Also, again,

Seriously people? I hope they cancel VEISHEA this year, next year, and the year after that. Especially if these are mostly underclassmen. VEISHEA is a time to have fun, but they blew completely over the year. People are so ******* stupid.

Where else can you send the crowd? It would be even worse if you pushed it south into residential. Even east and west wouldn't work because of the Greek houses and other areas where you don't want large groups of people

I certainly dont.

A few were idiots. But overall the good from veishea far, far outweighs the bad. A crowd of a few hundred with a small percentage of that actually causing damage, while embarrassing for the city, should not outweigh the thousands that enjoy the veishea festivities, from ames residents and families to students that were not involved in the riot to alumni that come back to veishea every year. It sounds more like just better security is needed for the event, though maybe they werent expecting problems on freaking tuesday.

Hell, even in cases of property damage, id wager the city comes out way, way ahead from all the other business veishea drives. Hotels and ames restaurants have to make a killing (i know hotels are way marked up and many are completely booked up)

No, keep VEISHEA; expel students involved and suspend students who stood and cheered.

I think the only hope of it not being cancelled is arresting the people who did this since there were a bunch of cell phones recording people doing that crap. Supposedly Ames PD was also recording people as much as possible before breaking it up. I sure hope this is true and they can prosecute those idiots.

How the hell would they find all the students involved last night? They might be able to get a few, but all of them? It would just be easier to cancel for a few years.

It will be interesting to hear people's reactions who are just waking up to it.

Based on what I saw and heard from Monday night, I only assumed last night and all following nights would be crazier. I didn't expect riot levels to be reached by Tuesday though...
