I think that first half slap in the face yesterday was that wake up call to high-major basketball that we needed. I expect we look much better to start today
Look at who performed. TL, KG, BRE. Don't think it was coincidence that it were guys who played a lot of high major ball. The other new additions and freshmen had the oh **** so this is what's it like face.

Definitely not. His presence on the court offensively is a big part of opening up driving lanes, regardless of his defense. He just has to be passable defensively to justify a lot of minutes, hence why he played 27 minutes despite struggling shooting. If it were all about D then Omaha/Waston would have picked up more.

I do think a Milan/King/Ward combo is a good bit better defensively than Milan/King/Jones just because Ward's a bit more capable of switching and defending multiple positions than BRE.

For sure he’ll have good offensive games and bad ones. It’s just debatable whether he’ll ever to be able to stay in front of high major 3’s. No shame in that. I guess if I were choosing, I’d start him at the 4 and bring Tre king off the bench. Let Curtis Jones start at the 3.

I’ve been critical in the past about TJs use of Pav. And it can come back to bite him. If you’re up 30, he needs to be playing. If we want to start Jones (and he played in crunch time), we need a backup guard. No idea why he wasn’t playing more in those blowouts.

I have thought the same thing. Watch him sit on the bench up by 30-40 points and then all the sudden when things are struggling he puts him in.
I kind of figured we would use Pav strategically as a boost when things are not going right shooting wise, but I think there needs to be a ton of game film watched after this.
I noticed a few times gilbert had Pav wide open in the few mins Pav played and just forced a contested shot versus making the easy pass for Pav.

players need to learn each other's strengths and be smart. If you haven't made your last 5 shots, its time for you to be patient and look for other options.

i feel like that may be because everyone is tying to prove their worth right now maybe.

I think we thought Pav was a sniper but maybe he’s not a guy that can just come in and shoot the 3 off the rip. When he’s in there he doesn’t look to do anything but get into the paint. I don’t think it’s that the guys aren’t getting him the ball.

I think it’s a matter of him not being there defensively yet to get the minutes to get in the flow offensively.

I don’t know that Milan is a 3 at this level. He got roasted on D. The guys he’s going to guard in conference will be able to do that too. I think he’s a stretch 4 at least for this year. And should probably be coming off the bench.

Length can make up for a little (or all) of that with a little experience.

Kind of crazy to predict out a whole season after one game vs that type of athlete.

I’m not predicting the season, I just think that once we get to conference play, we’re going to see 3s like that more often than not. It could be he is more comfortable defending 4s this year and can eventually transition to defending 3s. Of course, he could have just had a bad game and most games, his offense will more than make up for his defense.
