This really bothered me, too, kind of takes the strategy out of timeouts!

Is it common when there is a lead change under 30 seconds to stop the clock and check the time at the monitor? After IB made the basket to give us the lead WV was out of timeouts and rattled and the refs stopped the game and sent both teams to their benches to check the clock. imo WV should not have gotten a free timeout.

Somebody earlier said this was standard procedure (or similar). I'd like to hear the reasoning again.

With games like this I like to go back to the Thread Page where it all starts to turn and the magic occurs. FYI: Page 33 it is in this time line.

Led off with the apparently frustrated Hoggins.
Agree. And as far as Huggins goes... call him Huggins, Hoggins, Huggy, Hug, Scrog, who cares. I'm kind of like some others. I'm waiting for him to go.

WV has gotten the rep with Huggy but other teams are starting to play overly aggressive also, in the Big 12. It does make BB less enjoyable to watch and follow. It also requires the refs to call the game consistently which they don't and probably can't.

Time to maybe start talking (again perhaps by me) about having one 'remote' referee per game, who is synced to the in-house refs. They could call a more consistent game IMO, not allow games to get one-sided between teams. Not allow excessive influence by coaches such as Huggins and Self who seems to be always whining and complaining to the refs.
Coaches are always going to try and find ways to influence the game and push the limit. The refs need to learn to follow the rules consistently. They are the ones that let this stuff get out of hand. A foul is a foul, regardless of the style you want to play. Freedom of movement is gone and it's unfortunate.

The officiating needs to align with how the NBA does it. So much more fun to watch when players have more freedom of movement.

I got back from the game made my post on the then last page then I popped back to page 20, not a lot of happiness on that page. When I watch from home I try to stay out of the game threads, but I don't always succeed.

Every few years it seems they try to enforce rules to get there, but then the tv morons all complain about how the game is being ruined by fouls (as opposed to being ruined by the teams that won't stop fouling)

Huggy also said his called play on the IZB steal would have worked if they followed instructions because "they had five guys inside the foul line". Not sure what he was watching there.
Yeah I had to go back and watch that play after I heard those comments. We were just straight man to man. No one was going to run wide open and we had Jaden guarding the ball with his length against an inbounder who couldn’t move. Very strange.

Thoughts? What is the solution I wonder. Some end of the year rules committee? Again, with more finality. Will they do anything this year or will things need to get worse still?

All this allowed aggressive play, and no-foul calling is beginning to ruin college BB. Something needs to be done. Maybe the way the Pros do it would be better. I don't follow the NBA much.

I was thinking, doesn’t IB’s game have to be a top ten individual performance in program history?

Not just 35 points, but 35 points with really high fg% and relatively few shots, an emphatic dunk to tighten up the game, then a steal and basket to win it in a game that probably punches NCAA ticket for a team that only won two games the year before?

Off the top of my head only Fizer’s turnaround J game vs KU matches it for regular conf season.

The non traveling calls were so bad last night, the refs must have thought they were officiating an NBA game.
I actually have wondered thos year if travel have become a point of non emphasis thos year.

I've seen numerous, by and against ISU, plays on the perimeter, where a player gets it, shot fakes and begins to drive, but moves feet before the dribble, none which have been called.

I've been surprised and pleased as always thought those calls were technically right, but nor in the spirit.

Similar to loosening *a bit* the carrying calls.

It’s a force of emphasis to not call traveling as much this year. It’s supposed to be more like the NBA, however there are times when refs have just flat out missed the easy ones.

I saw that same interview. I thought it was almost shocking how blunt and matter-of-fact he was. I can't decide if it's refreshing to hear a coach be honest and genuine, or disgusting to criticize players in the press. Maybe some of each. We were all sick of 'we just need to play defense harder' type responses just a week and a half ago. At this point anyone playing for him knows what they're signing up for. I'm not saying I think it's the right way to go about it, but I'm also not going to be mock-outraged for his players. We've all seen what a lack of accountability leads to, and it's clear Huggy would rather run off players that don't buy in than compromise his team. Still kinda feels wrong to air that laundry in public.

Huggy has earned that reputation over his entire coaching career. He has a very flippant and sarcastic attitude towards reporters, he's been an unapologetic jerk on the sidelines, and for the most part, doesn't give a rats ass what you think of him. And throughout the years, most of his players love and respect the guy. I remember several players telling reporters that they would run through a brick wall for Huggy. The comments he made in he interview were just Huggy being Huggy - his view of what happened during the last few minutes of the game. It's also his way of admitting that he hasn't done a good job of teaching his players.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not a Bob Huggins fan, but the guy has to have something special to win over 900 games in 40 years. Can't stand him, but that interview was typical Huggins. Hope he hangs it up soon.
