Not every 5 star players become successful NBA player like Harrison Barnes. Billew is good and I am really excited about his future at ISU. His dunk was great but I was more impressed with his 3 pointer and smooth looking jump shot, which showed he is more than just an athletic freak.
Fair enough. I just dont believe its outrageous to compare him to NBA players when he's a top 15 player in his class and showing up as a lottery pick in mock drafts.

From what I hear Harrison was a little more offensively polished and Omaha is a better defender. However, can’t really judge high school kids stats . Especially when Harrison was playing on the same team as a future big 12 starting point guard and a college all American

OB was great on defense. Sandfort only scored around 10 the entire game when OB was guarding him (and couple of those were really long 3 pointers). He scored around 12 pts in the 2 minutes they rested Omaha and someone else was guarding him.

As an NBA fan he looks like an NBA player 1.5 years from now to me, Which is what we should want if we want to score pieces that can get ISU a final four or NC. We should want a guy like Milan to be a 2 or 3 year player as well.

I think it’s pretty easy for the recruiting media to make a kid like this a five star but sometimes they can be hilariously bad basically just knob polishing blue bloods. When Haliburton arrived here and had some of best passing and play making abilities I’ve ever seen with a nearly 7 foot wing span I was lmao how bad the services must have been to grade him 3*. 7 foot wing span with magic Johnson passing instincts doesn’t grow on trees even if he’s skinny.

Eh, I think you can compare them a little bit. Not saying it should be mean everything, but both were playing in the same class, so it's not like a putting a 4A player's stats up against a 1A player. McDermott being on that team probably helped boost Barnes's efficiency a bit, but probably decreased his counting stats. (Also, note that Bubu Palo was the class ahead of them, so he wasn't there for Barnes's senior year.)

That being said, I agree with your first assessment and I think the stats mostly reflect that, too (other than Barnes having more steals).

What were Tyrese's offers? Seems like more than recruiting services missed on him.

Yes, he has NBA potential but Barnes was not only 5 star player, he was the #1 player in his class.

Omaha and Lipsey are going to be incredible together.

I was watching some of our ‘01 Tinsley games on YouTube yesterday and Shirley/Rancik were the only guys who could barely finish his ally-oops. Imagine this kid on the other end.

Tyrese really liked UNI and could’ve ended up there. I think Kyle Green was the lead there.

But he only had 3 other high major offers in Minnesota, Nebraska, and Cincy

That’s the discussion though…if we’re allowed to compare him to nba draft picks. It’s an absurd discussion because he’s obviously more talented than scores of nba picks.

I doubt Duke fans ever argue if they’re allowed to compare this year’s 5 stars to 5 stars of past.

McDonald’s AA gets announces on Monday I believe. I’m guessing he has a pretty good shot at it.

I never knew there was a McD AA game in Hilton until I went down a rabbit hole on Wikipedia last night. We’re any of you at that? 99 I believe.

That’s what I mean, it’s easy for everybody to see freakishly explosive Omaha as 5* and if he signed with Duke he’d surely be ranked even higher.

A guy like Tyrese is harder to identify but really shouldn’t be if somebody does this as an actual job. A pure point guard elite playmaker with his wingspan is like a once a decade thing. There are 2-3 comps in the nba and it’s not like every single nba team wouldn’t want one if more existed.

Ames
I went to high school with Harrison and was at everyone of their games his Junior year. I used to think it was crazy when people compared 2021 Waukee with those Ames teams but as time goes on it’s getting closer and closer. Devries was a top 100 player and has been a stud at Drake. The Sandfort’s both going to be good players at Iowa and if Omaha hits his ceiling it’s going to be interesting. I’m still leaning Ames but it’s hard to argue against 4 high major D1 caliber players. It’s amazing they lost twice that year.

Yes, they played the game at Hilton in 99. Held the dunk contest at Ames High. Carlos Boozer, Jay Williams, and Nick Collison were some of the notables on the roster that year.

Omaha is 11th in the 247 composite and projected as a top 5 pick in some mocks in 2024. So he cant get too much higher.

Tyrese Halliburton is a pretty crazy case. I didn’t pay attention to recruiting backgrounds. I went to the Mizzou game and he just absolutely stood out. I don’t think he had crazy stats but he just did EVERYTHING right on both ends of the court and was just great.

That was Harrison's sophomore year when they lost. One loss was bc coach downs took his foot off the gas and started to play keep away vs Marshalltown at Ankeny in the substrate final. They went 53-0 his Jr and Sr years

I think he's referring to Waukee losing twice in 2021.

I think if the two Waukee schools where still together that team would give that Ames team a run for their money. There is a lot of talent on both squads
