Not sure what specific thread I saw it, but I know another poster on here said after the Illinois State game that they felt we could break Iowas defense with double moves because Iowa always bites on first move.

I only saw one attempt at a double move, and it is the reason we won the game. Hell of a job by that poster to call it out, and I’m curious if more teams start to use it against Iowa
Maybe it was me. I said I’d like to see some misdirection because Iowa crashes hard on the first look. You can find examples over the years where their opponents have had success with counters and fakes. I wanted to see more of this in the run game, but it was nice to see their secondary exposed. They were sitting on the underneath routes and finally paid for it. Rocco did a great job getting his receivers open by going through his progressions in the 2nd half. Iowa feasts on quarterbacks staring down their primary targets.

Yeah he was changing the play because the sideline signaled a new play. The coaches in to press box probably didn't like the look from Iowa vs the play they called so they called a different play.

Historically going fast isn't good for us. I cringe any time we try to go fast.
So now he was changing the play, but it was from the coaching staff. ISU was back up in the loadest part of the stadium, and we didn't like the look on 3rd and 2 from the nine yard line, then take a timeout and talk about it, or better yet, come up with a different play that is not running the ball straight at an 8 man box on that call. Spread them out and run some type of RPO.

On Saturday we spent the first quarter and a half trying to run the ball with very little success into a stack box, only when we started spreading them out did we find success. Everyone knows what EIU is going to do and how they defend, how about stop playing like b10 west teams and trying to run through it and do something different? Go back and watch the video, EIU was putting 7 to 8 guys on the LOS on first and second down, getting us into third and long and forcing us to pass. That is their MO, that is why they are successful, you have to either have the line like Michigan or Ohio State has to beat them at their own game, which we do not, or spread them out and attack the corners.

Have you ever watched a football game? The coaches signal in the play and the players have wrist bands on that have various check downs on them. Dumb my post all you want all you have to do is watch the sidelines and the coaches signaling in the check downs, it's pretty obvious if you watch.

There's a reason the offense got rolling once we started running more outs and hitch routes. Deep across the middle is just not going to be open on a regular basis.

Also-- here's a thought. Maybe the reason it was so open the one time is because we didn't try and do it every series. I think we clearly got them comfortable thinking everything would be in front of them and sprung one over the top on them.

Exactly. People don't understand that a lot of plays are run to set up other plays for later in the game.

Is that for sure, because the announcers stated that he was changing something, maybe it was the blocking scheme. But the guy has started for the 2nd season, if he does not have the ability to check to a different play at the line, then something is going on with the coaching staff.
If you are right and the QB cannot change the play, then why on 3rd and two from the nine in the shadow of their end zone, not go on a quick count?
The booth is changing the call in his helmet and he’s relaying it to the rest.

Thinkin about why Mouser hasn't opened the playbook up in game two of non-conference play. Might start a thread.

Totally disagree, go back and watch the int that Becht throw in the 2nd series. We are at the 11 yard line, we spread them out, the EIU defense is confused, the ball is snapped and Becht given plenty of time in pocket is staring down the receiver the entire way, drawing three people to the ball and its an INT. Now go watch the video again, look at the slot receiver on the top, he is wide open, and past his man. Horrible read by Becht, hit the guy running free and its an 89 yard TD. Its not throwing the ball that got Becht in trouble, it was him locking onto a receiver and not scanning the field.

We also spent the first quarter and a half inside our own 10 yard line.

Doing stupid **** is what has gotten us in trouble against Iowa for years. For once, we decided just to take our medicine with bad field position, punt it away and force their offense to beat us. And while it was ugly early, over the course of a full game that plan worked.

This is just wholly bizarre. We win a great game, Rocco makes an awesome comeback and you choose to be miserable about why we weren't hucking it down the middle of the field all game. What's the point of this?

True and it does not matter, we did not execute a simple play with 3rd and 2 to go, we had two motion penalties, that is what go us into trouble, backing us back to the one yard line again.
If we want to go where we think this team can go, then we have to make more plays and fewer mistakes. Saturday we made a couple mistakes and EIU allowed us to stick around, get out barrings and could not bury us. Teams like Utah and KSU will not do the same, instead of going into half down 13 we will be going into half down 21/24 points.

Beating EIU does not make this a great game or make our season, yes, we had a great comeback, but I see where we can improve and get better. You only do that by critically looking at your mistakes and how you can improve them. Not by saying its a great win, we beat EIU, lets call it a season.

Well I know I can sleep better at night knowing that 1SEIACLONE has broken down the tape. Be sure to submit your findings to Coach Campbell.
