On my second week of P90X2. OMFG.

It's not that the program itself is so much harder than P90X, it's that just about every move is off balance (intended to make all your muscles work together), and as someone that doesn't have a lot of balance in the first place it makes it insanely difficult.

That being said, 1.5 weeks into the program and I already feel a difference in my pants.

That's what she said.

6 weeks into a p90x class and I've dropped 24 pounds and a couple pants sizes. More than doubled the amount of pushups I can do and feel so much better. That 6 weeks included 4 Christmas parties and a trip to Memphis along with heading back to my parents for the holidays. There may be better out there but I'm a believer. I like the class setting too because of the sense of accountability that comes with it.
Anyone else have any successes with new years resolutions?

Congrats on your progress, I've slipped a bit, or a lot, this winter, but getting back into the swing of things now.

I usually pick up running again every spring until football camps get rolling but this year decided to "work through" the winter. Happy with my decision so far. First 5k is in early March and I will be curious to see how my time compares with last year's times with a lot less running but no doubt being in better shape.

My wife and I are both "skinny fat". We have done p90x twice without the diet and I run 4/week during nice weather. We are so lazy neither of us likes cooking so we eat out a lot - even if it's just the Hyvee deli. I have toned up from the workouts and last year I gave up alcohol for Lent in which I lost 20 pounds. I went from 185 to 165 doing nothing more than not drinking (and eating the crap at 2 AM that comes wit it). I've convinced my wife to give up alcohol this Lent as well but am wondering if maybe we should try p90x2 or insanity? Which one is better for people who won't follow the diet to a t? We are to Vegas and Cayman Islands this summer so I want to look better in my suit than I did 20 pounds ago.

We have a pull-up bar and free weights ranging from 3lbs to 50 lbs. Thanks.

I personally like Insanity better for the mere fact that the workouts do not last 1.5 hours and that you don't have to do them 6 times a week.

That being said, I do Insanity (ranging from 30-60 minutes 5 times per week), then go and run on a treadmill or outside. I also do hot yoga once a week for 60 minutes to work on flexibility and to get a good sweat going.

Good luck.

What workouts besides yoga on P90X are much longer than an hour? Its been a while since I've done the videos but I was thinkign that was the only one

Started my 3rd cycle of P90X2 yesterday, the second hybridized with a few P90X workouts (do Kenpo X instead of Plyocide because I live in a second floor apartment and use the P90X Legs and Back instead of P90X2 partly for the same reason, partly because it's a better leg workout). Haven't lost a lot of weight because what I've lost in fat I've put back on in muscle, but I have lost a lot of fat size. And the balance moves have gotten a lot easier.

How in the hell do you run in addition to Insanity. Good grief, I feel like I'm going to puke/die every day I do Insanity. Once I get my back straightened out, I'm going to start it again and I'm dreading that day.

Insanity uses all body weight right and P90 mixes in additional weights, bands, etc, correct? I dont want to have to buy a bunch of misc stuff to get started.

Insanity has no equipment requirements other than a good pair of shoes and maybe a heart rate monitor. p90x needs weights or bands and a pullup bar.

Figured. I am leaning towards insanity because if I flake (which I hope I dont) I dont want to be stuck with equip.

Anybody know what the injury rates on these programs are? I'd assume since it's not running the impact on joints would be less.

p90x is pretty brutal. I am on week 2, and my body hurts all over. I am thinking about just slowing down for a few weeks and then start over at week 1 again.

I did Insanity last summer and it worked well. I then stopped doing it and gained all my weight back so I need to get back on the horse. It does work well if you commit though.

Insanity isn't terribly high impact, but there is jumping and running involved. It is all at your own pace though so you can try and manage that.
