I grew up around that area and I never heard any problems with how people pronounced it. We used to pronounce it "STINK-town", though.

-I'm from Waterloo/ Cedar Falls and it irks me to no end when people from Iowa say "WATERloo" instead of "waterLOO." I know the Belgian city is "WATERloo," but you're from Iowa, know it's "waterLOO."
