Again...I'm not for or against this being the best hire, but in answer to your question, why can't it be both: an 'in' or connection with a friend and the guy to right the ship especially under the budget circumstances?
It could 100% be both. I would love if TJ ended up being the right guy and had success here and he very well could be.

I want someone that knows how to coach a game for a change. Not sure if TJ is the answer with his struggles at UNLV, but then I have not followed them and have no idea how bad the program was before he got there. JP usually surprises in his hires, so TJ is probably not the guy. Also, he just signed an extension, so there may be a health buyout to get him. That and paying off Prohm might be too much for the school.

Plane coming in to Ames at 2:30 PM today from Springfield, MO. Dana Ford of Missouri State here for an interview? Sounds like a real up and comer.

Dana Ford-Missouri State Head Basketball Coach
He is alot younger than i thought. Not really sold on him though. Anyone familiar with him? Haven't seen him linked anywhere else so I don't think ISU would have to outbid for him.

Maybe Craig Smith? Or don’t the Gophers want him now since Smith inherited his best player Queta from the previous Coaching Staff and therefore his Utah State record must be ignored.?
You may want to fact check that.

TJ also went in to UNLV and cleaned house. Using two years (one being a friggin pandemic year) to determine if TJ can coach just seems really lazy.
Did TJ actually need to clean house, or did guys just transfer? The prior year they went 11-7 in the MWC and played fairly well down the stretch. It doesn't seem to have the feel of a team with a bad locker room.

Dana Ford is a great recruiter and has totally remade the roster there after some underachieving years with Paul Lusk in Springfield.

His weakness is in game situations. He's highly emotional and does tend to lash out at things consistently whether it be players, referees, scorer's table people, anyone he can find. If you're looking for strong Xs and Os, he's probably not your guy. He would probably bring Gage Prim (grad transfer) and Isiah Mosley with him, both are very good players that would be very good at the Big 12 level.

He's really young but is definitely ready to recruit at that level. It's a matter of what he can do with it once it gets on campus. You could do worse but you could also do a lot better.

He may be interviewing(who knows one way or the other) but he's not getting the job.

A guy who I have not seen mentioned here but who I believe will be a fine head coach is Kim English, the former Missouri star. He may take a lower-level job than ISU. But he has all that aptitude.

Not happening. Me and some buddies got the entire ISU student section to chant “Kim, Kim. Kim” and he was visibly not having it. Plus, he is full blown “SEC! SEC!”.

When this finally gets announced, some here will find out that Albaugh was the donor that made this happen. As many know, he is the father in law of this site’s owner.
