Calm is great when things are going well...reverse our record and we wouldn't be so thrilled with a coach having a calm demeanor on the bench...

Yeah Morgan was there calmest guy on the planet. Some might say he looked asleep.

I guess I don't know what he said and it probably was that but using Underwood as an example of an out of control coach was kind of funny.
It was a bad T in my opinion, didn't really emphasize a call or support a player

By the way, if you caught the player interviews in the DMR, the players say he's not always calm, cool and collected, and that he'll get after it when he needs to.

Matt also said he goes through 2-3 chapsticks a day so maybe they have a sedative effect.;)

He somehow kept his emotions in check for senior speeches, although he was choked up talking about Deonte. I was weeping from Deonte on out.

They caught him on TV applying chapstick and I started laughing. Coach has to have soft lips.

I remember when he gave Chris Allen a little shove to the shoulders during a timeout after he had made a bonehead play. Hoiberg didn't have many outbursts, but he certainly didn't lack emotion. Prohm is no different and I really appreciate/respect the approach he takes.

I agree, Prohm definitely doesn't lack emotion. There was a moment last night, I believe in the 2nd half, where he was emphatically jumping up and down on the sideline with his arms raised, then turned around and gave a big fist pump. It was right after we hit a big shot, but I couldn't tell if he was excited or if he was trying to get someone's attention and then was mad when he couldn't. My buddy and I both saw it and commented on how animated he was. Loved seeing that kind of passion out of Prohm.

Also, late in the first half when we were trading buckets with OSU, we hit a nice shot and PRohm wanted to use his use it or lose it timeout to setup the defense (I think it was around 1 minute to go in the first half). He was jumping up and down trying to get the timeout and didn't get and and was pissed jumping around. It was funny.

There is a time and a place to get a technical as a coach. Underwood's last night was the epitome of when not to. ISU had just pushed it open to a 6 point lead, largest in a while I believe, and Underwood got a little too heated. The ref was probably quick to give him that T, but still you have to know time and situation as a coach. I would look to Fred Hoibergs first technical ever at Iowa State. IIRC, he did that when the team was down and in a rutt against KU in the Big12 tourney semi's. He got fired up, got the tech, and then cooled down talked to his guys and they went out and finished out the win.

Prohm is a level-headed guy from all accounts (i think it is something in his soothing chap-stick) and I like that from a coach. I would rather have a calm demeanor on the sidelines who can get fired up when it is need, but is the steady hand at all other times.

Underwood isn't a bad coach for what he did, but it certainly did not help his teams chances at the time.

Something about the hair and the build, but Underwood reminds me of McDermott, which is not a good thing.

I could certainly be wrong, but the 1st half last night was as animated as I think I've ever seen Prohm working the officials.

I think Steve is a lot louder and more animated than Fred ever was when he yells out plays to players during the game. Lord you can hear him on TV.

Funny how we like the calm demenor of Fred and Steve now, when in the past we loved the animated Johnny, Tim Floyd throwing off his jacket, and the Larry outbursts.
Goes to show both can work.

But there was nothing better than Larry going BANANAS and Jared Homan having to hold him back. THE BEST.

If getting T's in basketball is anything like getting ejected in baseball, usually it comes after you call the ref a ****sucker

As fast as that T came out I am guessing he used "you" in his assessment of the officiating.

However... I am just going to pretend he really did call the official a **** sucker... its funnier that way.

The yelling/screeming types tend to get tuned out or cause some form of mutiny possibly.

I remember Fred getting T'd up vs. KU in the '14 Big 12 tourney and also screaming at Monte during the 1st round of the NCAA tourney for screwing around instead of just getting a bucket.

Those stand out because they were so rare.

That T was the best, since it was for coming out onto the court to huddle during a timeout. Probably won't see that variation of a T again.

IIRC he actually did a Floyd-era taking the coat off and actually yelling.

He'd dropped the last 5 games to KU and it felt like it was now or never to put a stop to it.

Would have to look it up. ISU ended up pulling away to win that game and I remember thinking the players probably had no other choice if FRED went crazy, ha ha.
