He had a really good game tonight, probably his best so far for us. I think it really helped that Scotty was playing the role of lead guard most of the night (along with Royce playing some point forward) and Allen was in more of his natural role as 2-man.

I've been critical of Chris in the past. But tonight he was outstanding. Keep it up, Chris!

I thought Allen was getting a little love from the rim tonight which was nice. I thought he showed a lot of maturity tonight and was more of a team player.

I also think some props need to go out to Gibson. He might have only played 11 minutes, but I thought he played some quality minutes.

Re: Some love for Chris Allen

Watching ESPN3 replay -- a nice sequence that perhaps summarizes Allen's night -- 8:30 mark, Scotty gets his shot blocked, Allen hustles, swipes it away from the KSU player and draws a foul. Sinks the FTs.

Then Allen hits a spot-up 3 in transition 40 seconds later.

This is the CA I was expecting when he came here. Glad to see hes starting to show up, and its better late then never! If he starts driving/passing more now and playing smart instead of being a ball hog when he gets it and settling for awful shots, this team will just get a whole lot tougher.

Real nice to see he has more to his game than taking bad shots.

Chris Allen really can make a difference for this team. He is the only player besides Royce who can create his own shot. He just needs to choose his spots, follow Royce's lead.

Hoiberg praised his rebounding in the post game.

just saw this too

I have been extremely critical of Allen this year, good game young man, and I hope you keep proving me wrong.

I have only been disappointed in his play because I know he can play at a high level and really help this team. More games like yesterday would be huge for us.

I don't think it is a coincidence that as soon as he stops playing PG he plays better. The less the ball is in his hands the better.

A lot of the angst with Allen has been due to high expectations. With think "3 years under Izzo, 2 Final Fours" and expect that we're getting a NBA ready player. Add the expectations to him playing out of position and you get a message board full of people that are clammoring for more.

I've been guilty of being overly critical (mostly yelling at my tv in the basement) but last night was an outstanding effort all the way around that was the difference in us winning that game. Great job Chris! Keep it up. We won't always need the points, but we ALWAYS need that kind of effort.

Yup, he has been playing out of position a lot.

A lot of people, including me, have recognized he is playing out of position but that doesn't mean his shot selection before last night had been anywhere near acceptable. He still struggled on defense last night and that really has been my biggest issue with him. I thought coming from Michigan State he'd be a little bit better on that end.

This is the first game I've watched of his that I didn't want to strangle him, so great work Chris. You were big last night.

I, too, have been ragging on him a lot this year. Up until last night, I thought he was being selfish and only thinking of his stats. He played a great game last night and appeared to be much more of a team player. Keep it up!

As some have pointed out, CA has been playing out of position and last night he was basically back at off guard the whole 2nd half, and it showed. He's maturing and finding his role on this team, as are a lot of our players, and Fred has done a great job bringing him along and showing faith in him. It paid off big last night.

Agreed. The last 14 minutes or so of the game last night, PG was played mostly by either Scotty or Royce. If that was by design on FH's part.....it was a wise move, as it turned out. I hope we see it more in the future if CA is struggling. Let CA play the first half at point, then switch it up. Make the other team adjust.
