30. BROCK PURDY, IOWA STATE CYCLONES
There isn’t a more unique quarterback in college football than Brock Purdy. He has steadily declined throughout his collegiate career, sporting single-season passing grades of 88.0, 82.2 and 74.2 in his first three years on campus. This year, Purdy currently stands at an 84.2 mark, but that’s largely buoyed by the three poor defenses he has faced in Northern Iowa, UNLV and Kansas. He earned a sub-60.0 passing grade against Iowa and Baylor.

The cyclones signal-caller has been notorious for excellent timing and anticipation when playing in the structure of the offense but turns into a gunslinger who tries to make superhero plays when knocked off rhythm.
I know you copy / pasted so this is not against you:

In what world is Northern Iowa a poor defense?! They have the best defense in FCS, which would put them at an above average defense in FBS.

According to PFF his ratings for passes

Behind LOS - 70.0
0-9 yards - 68.0
10-19 - 93.2 (that's insane)
20+ - 83.3

That's crazy good for 10+ yard passes
We need to be cooking up mid/deep crossers in that 15ish yard range a lot more often.

"Sure seems like my armchair analysis says that if ISU loses it means Brock is terrible. This analysis from on outside source saying that Brock Purdy is a great quarterback doesn't fit with my narrative, so I don't care!!!!!!!"

I think people are suffering from EXTREME confirmation bias here. Brock Purdy is by far the best quarterback in the history of this school. Some of you seem to have no idea the type of difficult throws that he makes every single game; throws that our quarterbacks before him (basically since Brett Meyer) couldn't make. Next time you watch the game, look at how frequently he throws a 15 yard out route to the far side of the field. He throws the ball before the receiver makes the break, and throws it to the spot where only our guy can get it. It's "only" a 10 yard pass, but it's got to travel 30 yards in the air and be on a rope. Last week (admittedly kansas is bad), he hit Scates 50 yards down the field in stride. I loved and appreciated Jarred Barnett, Jerome Tiller, Sam Richardson, Austen Arnaud, and all of those guys. Those guys can't make those throws.

Hunter Dekkers looks awesome, and I can't wait for him to take over next year. I bet he has a higher ceiling than Purdy! But, holy hell, Brock does so many things well. Most of the interceptions this year have been batted passes (or X completely whiffing that catch vs. Iowa). He has every school record for a reason.

I'm a Brock Purdy guy! Not to many quarterbacks in Iowa State history can say that they've won a Fiesta Bowl. Yes, he has room to grow...but gives the team a chance to be successful every Saturday. I'm proud of how he represents the program on and off the field. I understand the critics, but to want him benched is beyond asinine to me! With that being said.. I think Hunter will be the perfect guy for the transition after this season.

I'm looking for a conference championship.
Trophy or not, he led Iowa State to the Regular Season Big Xii Championship last year. The Cyclones were (8-1) and in first place alone in the Round Robin Competition. Even after losing in the Big Xii Championship Game, ISU still had the better record (8-2 to 7-2). I'm okay with the production vs. Trophy balance.

I'm happy with what he's done i just think if people want to enshrine him in gold he should get a conference ship.

Purdy is an enigma. I haven't really seen him try to make superhero plays (this season) when knocked off rhythm. I'd say more than anything his mechanics break down when out of rhythm, resulting in inaccurate passes. Combine that with a greater reluctance to improv, and we have 2021 Purdy.

I think he's a really good pocket passer. His arm strength on tough intermediate routes is underrated. But when his pocket breaks down, his improv skills are either less effective or have been coached out of him in comparison to 2018, when it felt like they were at their best. I also suspect injuries have taken a toll. He doesn't look as quick as he used to.

Rewatch the KU highlights. He was running around a lot more than I remembered, and he was money.

Sometimes when he runs for his life, he is not money. Turns out he is mortal.

Reminds me of Wheedon to some extent. When comfy he is awfully awfully good. When running around, the results are either great or terrible.
