Why are we excluding passes behind the LOS? Why not look at only passes of 5 yards or more? 10 yards or more?

30. BROCK PURDY, IOWA STATE CYCLONES
There isn’t a more unique quarterback in college football than Brock Purdy. He has steadily declined throughout his collegiate career, sporting single-season passing grades of 88.0, 82.2 and 74.2 in his first three years on campus. This year, Purdy currently stands at an 84.2 mark, but that’s largely buoyed by the three poor defenses he has faced in Northern Iowa, UNLV and Kansas. He earned a sub-60.0 passing grade against Iowa and Baylor.
The cyclones signal-caller has been notorious for excellent timing and anticipation when playing in the structure of the offense but turns into a gunslinger who tries to make superhero plays when knocked off rhythm.
We need to be cooking up mid/deep crossers in that 15ish yard range a lot more often.According to PFF his ratings for passes
Behind LOS - 70.0
0-9 yards - 68.0
10-19 - 93.2 (that's insane)
20+ - 83.3
That's crazy good for 10+ yard passes
"Sure seems like my armchair analysis says that if ISU loses it means Brock is terrible. This analysis from on outside source saying that Brock Purdy is a great quarterback doesn't fit with my narrative, so I don't care!!!!!!!"

I think people are suffering from EXTREME confirmation bias here. Brock Purdy is by far the best quarterback in the history of this school. Some of you seem to have no idea the type of difficult throws that he makes every single game; throws that our quarterbacks before him (basically since Brett Meyer) couldn't make. Next time you watch the game, look at how frequently he throws a 15 yard out route to the far side of the field. He throws the ball before the receiver makes the break, and throws it to the spot where only our guy can get it. It's "only" a 10 yard pass, but it's got to travel 30 yards in the air and be on a rope. Last week (admittedly kansas is bad), he hit Scates 50 yards down the field in stride. I loved and appreciated Jarred Barnett, Jerome Tiller, Sam Richardson, Austen Arnaud, and all of those guys. Those guys can't make those throws.
Hunter Dekkers looks awesome, and I can't wait for him to take over next year. I bet he has a higher ceiling than Purdy! But, holy hell, Brock does so many things well. Most of the interceptions this year have been batted passes (or X completely whiffing that catch vs. Iowa). He has every school record for a reason.
I know you copy / pasted so this is not against you:
In what world is Northern Iowa a poor defense?! They have the best defense in FCS, which would put them at an above average defense in FBS.
You can't really argue with completion percentage though... either it's a completed pass or it isn't.I've never been a fan of PFF and their rating system, honestly.
Yeah, I don't find it very useful. I will look at it but don't put to much stock into it.I've never been a fan of PFF and their rating system, honestly.
Calvin Johnson would like a word or two.You can't really argue with completion percentage though... either it's a completed pass or it isn't.
Trophy or not, he led Iowa State to the Regular Season Big Xii Championship last year. The Cyclones were (8-1) and in first place alone in the Round Robin Competition. Even after losing in the Big Xii Championship Game, ISU still had the better record (8-2 to 7-2). I'm okay with the production vs. Trophy balance.I'm looking for a conference championship.
I'm happy with what he's done i just think if people want to enshrine him in gold he should get a conference ship.Trophy or not, he led Iowa State to the Regular Season Big Xii Championship last year. That is a good, arbitrary line of demarcation that ensures nobody since 1900-whatever will count as the best player we've seen at their position.I'm happy with what he's done i just think if people want to enshrine him in gold he should get a conference ship.
Gold Statue with or without the mullet?I'm happy with what he's done i just think if people want to enshrine him in gold he should get a conference ship.
