Reassuring comments from Texas Tech President

At least I found them to be reassuring. It makes me wonder if A&M's departure could end up being the best thing to ever happen to the Big 12. The conference will switch from a defensive mode to an offensive mode.

Bailey also said he expects Texas A&M to ultimately leave for the Southeastern Conference and the best option for the remaining nine Big 12 teams is to add at least one more member.

"If A&M leaves, we're going to use this opportunity to build one of the strongest conferences in the United States," Bailey said. "What we'll do, we're going to be very aggressive in recruiting schools and I don't know how many we're eventually going to recruit, we'll need to work with FOX and our other media partners in doing this.

"In the past we've sort of been reactive, I think the nine remaining members of the Big 12 have decided that the reactive behavior - it's time to get rid of that. It's time to be proactive and I think you'll see a very proactive approach... I think you ought to think of conference realignment with the Big 12 being one of the cornerstones."

Unfortunately, this isnt the way this will play out. By all accounts the B12 is viewed as a dying conference and that image isnt going to change when you've got schools constantly looking to leave. No school in their right mind would leave their situation for a less stable one in the B12, atleast not a school with enough cache to help our image.

I'm sure after aTm leaves that wont be the last we've heard of schools bailing either. Missery made it widely known last year they wanted out, so i would assume eventually they will bail if the SEC or B1G comes knocking.

No kidding! Why does the B12 just keep sitting back claiming they only want a 10 team conference while waiting for other conferences to poach our teams. Let's try to build something stronger instead of just holding it together with bubble gum and Elmer's glue!!

I find it quite annoying that no one from ISU will discuss the situation.

As a fan it's frustrating, but Pollard has always played his cards close to the vest. Coaching searches are conducted with secrecy, no one knew about the plan he & the other forgotten four schools were working on during last years realignment...

Besides, all he would really be able to say is that ISU is committed to the Big XII and they will try to make the conference as strong as it can be. ISU doesn't have a lot of bargaining power right now.

Weeeellll, someone should ask Deloss Dodds..errrrr Dan Beebe that question. This conference isnt going to be strong if 1 team dictates what happens. All of the teams need to work together and be willing to. Unfortunately, the Whorns will not allow that to happen. The have the money and want more and more power and know that everyone else is at their whim. So we are going to be stuck in this situation until the rest of the conference either nuts up or just implodes. My bet is on the implosion.

You think Missery all of a sudden had an epiphany and is now committed to the B12 after last year? God help you and the children you raise. All Missery did was learn a lesson in negotiations, believe me they are still snooping around. After aTm leaves, this conference is going to be left standing on one leg that is broken, all it will take is one more poached team to collapse. At that point everyone will be or atleast should be planning their exit strategy for when the impending collapse happens.

It's folks like you that preach gloom and doom that help spread the nonsense about the BXII going away. If you would preach a positive outlook like many of us then perhaps...just perhaps others would start to do the same as well.

Remember the saying, if you've got nothing good to say, then why say anything at all.

BXII...is a very viable conference and quite honestly has an appealing setup for teams to control their 3rd tier broadcasting rights. Quite frankly the BXII is the ONLY conference that allows a power school (or any school for that matter) to maximize its revenue.

Quit being a debbie downer/chicken little and be a bit more optimistic.

To me the first step in being proactive needs to be coming up with ways to ensure we dont have schools pulling this crap every year. Find ways to stick it to the schools who are flirting with the idea of leaving, thats the first step in creating a stable conference. I think there are more pressing needs than finding ways to bring in other schools. Hurrying to fill vacancies isn't going to make anything more stable, the big 12 needs to take its time and make sure they are bringing in the right schools for the long run, rather than the quick fix..ie Houston, SMU etc...

Publicly, that's what theyre all saying.

But from some sources that's not entirely true. 4 schools were reportedly gauging interest from the big 10 (and shot down due to not meeting academics).

Got others rumored to talking to the SEC at lower levels along with TAMU.

I have no doubt that the pac-10 has kept open lines with the schools it tried to grab earlier.

The problem is you can't buy it; not as long as 2010 happened. The Pac tried to get the southern 4 last year and they will try again if it would make them money.

The SEC just voted against expansion and knew they were for it while they voted! Does anyone think aTm won't be in the SEC by 2013?

Don't take this as a sky is falling statement because I think we absolutely end up in an AQ league. Also, this is exactly why it's a good thing JP is so tight lipped. Better to be outwardly silent and making contact privately than talking about stuff that partner schools might not want you talking about publicly. One thing I've learned through this is that Texans could learn when to shut the **** up.

ISU will be fine because the prospect of demotion is absurd, think about it.
