I guess it depends on how you define "caught a break." I've always thought of that phrase as implying that a person was somehow lucky.

I don't think luck determines your age. Instead, I think your age is determined by your date of birth and that is true for every person.

he didn't catch a break because of his age. He caught a break because the prosecutors and/or the judge were on board with him being moved to juvenile court. Now, his history probably helped in that he probably had never been in court but a lot of times minority kids don't get even that break in the criminal justice system.

Our criminal justice system has been an unmitigated disaster for quite some time, and it has reached a state where it feeds itself on the destruction it creates.

Hmm. I was going to reply but then realized we are not in the cave...

It's a huge risk because he's a convicted felon. If this goes bad it opens a huge negative recruiting door that could hurt future classes.

Answer me this, if he had signed with Iowa would this board let it slide?

He's not a convicted felon. For better or worse, he pled guilty to lesser charges and got it moved to juvenile court, per the article. Hence, avoiding a felony.

All those people agreed on jurisdiction. Because of his age.

Everything else in your post is pure speculation unless you've read the waiver report.

4 star at 5'9"? Dude has got to be crazy good!

And 201 pounds. Maybe Campbell is wanting to do more jamming at the line. This guys seems like he could be disruptive as WRs try to get into their routes.

No. not because of his age. By law in PA, juveniles who commit a crime like that are tried as an adult unless exceptions are made. Say for instance he got a prick judge, that judge could have refused to move it and said he needs to be tried as an adult. His age made the reverse waiver or reverse transfer possible but it wasn't because of his age that he got put in juvenile court. There were obviously mitigation factors that the parties believed should result in the kid getting another chance and not being sentenced to Prison. I agree with it too.

Looking at his videos, he is built like a tank, likes to hit and doesn't mind taking anyone on. He is an outstanding get for a position of need. Also, he seems to have a long stride for his height.

So he's lucky in the sense that he is a child that can file this motion and that he does not have any criminal history otherwise? Neither seems like luck to me.

Well, there are plenty of kids who don't get the benefit of the doubt. That is what I am saying. You get the wrong judge or prosecutor and they can screw you..

Honestly, I know people who done wrong and change their lives. There are plenty of stories like that..... but I really don’t feel like we need to talk about this too much longer because all it does is put a label on this kids head. Instead let it be a clean slate and let’s talk about how ******* big he is and how hard he hits!

Way up there
What negative recruiting can come from this?

"Remember when Campbell gave that kid who had been arrested and nearly threw his life away another shot"

If this kid keeps his nose clean and goes on to have a great career, maybe ends up in the league, this is one of the most positive recruiting stories you could ever sell to a recruit.

Never had a break, huh? Or is it you never deserved a break from someone? Or is it you think nobody deserves a break? Or is it something else entirely?

I don't see it that way. Campbell is fully aware of his history and giving him a chance to prove him self at ISU. If there is some issue that arises we know that Cambell will act and discipline or dismiss him.

I don't think CMC taking Jacob Park has hurt ISU recruitment of QB's. Parks history was very checkered and obviously ended poorly. If it doesn't work out it wont hurt recruiting. In fact, it can help recruiting by showing talented players with a history can get a chance but to full fill their potential they need to live up to the commitment.

Not to say his prior issues/de-commitments shouldn't be discussed but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and trust Cambell that he vetted and trusted him.
I will judge Young from the day he signs with ISU through his career, his history is just that.

Yeah, I'm not worried in the least about negative recruiting. My only concern would be about team chemistry if the kid isn't really committed to turning things around. I have faith that Campbell has vetted him well enough to make that call. He's earned the benefit of the doubt on discipline so far.

It is probably like a slow pitch softball league I was in once. Everyone went to the plate already with a 0-1 count on them. Campbell probably already told him and his family that ISU is happy to have him but make no mistake ISU is taking a chance and Campbell will not tolerate a bunch of screw-ups.
