1. I'm not convinced that this is the SEC goal. Not now, but maybe eventually. A play like that is big enough to be dangerous to what is already a cash cow.

2. If their goal is to build their own tier of football out of elite schools, some of those elite schools will become the bottom feeders of the elites.

You’re both still working under the idea of conferences being what they are today.

read the statement from the Florida state President. This is espn vs the world, and they will get every big brand they can on board. And when they start waving actual money around, not just projections, the name brand schools will most definitely listen.

all the non elite big 10 schools can tout academics and affiliation. But Ohio state’s athletic department has nothing to do with their research department. Same with Michigan USC and Nike along with Clemson.

those schools expect to compete at a National level. When there are half a dozen schools in the sec pulling away from them, resource wise, they’re going to look at what’s best for them.

I think the ultimate goal is to play only teams within the SEC. Set up like the NFL. So you will have your divisions champions and wild cards for the playoffs. Then what ever they set up to be your equivalent to the AFC and NFC champs to play in the championship game. Key is to keep all the money in their league to maximize profits.

It’s not sec, in fact when this plan comes together, there will be a whole new name. It’s about collecting brands to put on espn

And passionate fans of the programs that are left out will treat the new league like the XFL. NFL-lite, except for the fact that the team they love the most has been actively screwed by it. Those kinds of people make up the majority of the current audience. As I've said, they're endangering the cash cow, and I think many (not all) will realize it.

Exactly correct. The SEC is just the current vehicle their "house brands" will accumulate under for football. ESPN will provide the SEC the funding required to draw other brands under their label until they have the teams they want under their full control.

The dumbest thing you can do in this environment is secure all your media rights under one outlet.

ESPN is the devil.

The CFP expansion discussion will probably be off the table for a while as non-ESPN players like the B10 ascertain if they really want to cede all control to the mothership.
Good, 12 teams is a total joke anyways, it's just to make more money and get more SEC teams in the playoffs. Keep it at eight, 5 conference champions, 1 G5 school, and 2 at-large bids.

Raise your hand if you think ESPN (ie Disney) is a good investment. IMO, I might short them. Depends on the rest of the CFB's next move.

This feels like a last ditch effort from ESPN as being the cool sports network no longer works.

They better be happy to have some rules that level the playing field like the NFL does. Recruiting alone will probably keep them pretty far away from NFL parody.

12 gets a team like Alabama in every year even if they slip up.

Honestly, At first I had flashbacks of 10 years ago and thought everything would happen quickly. Now, I think everyone is in wait-and-see mode until the lawsuits make their way through court.

There’s little incentive for the other 8 teams to move until they get their ESPN/TX/OU checks, and I imagine conferences are going to need time to evaluate all options as well. As anxious as I am for a resolution, I think that this is going to drag on for months or maybe even a year+. No inside info, just my two cents.

It would be great for the Big 12 if we got a system like this but I don’t think we can hold on to an automatic bid for very long. The top 6 conference champs plus 6 at-large proposal is probably good for us at this point. I would also not be surprised if the other leagues propose a cap on teams per conference in the 12-team proposal - something like no more than 2 of the at-large bids going to any one conference. That would guarantee a minimum of three conferences would get at-large bids.

There is a world where Iowa State is playing in the new-look Big 12 CCG and the winner gets to host a 8-9 playoff game on campus, with the winner of that going to a bowl site to play Alabama in the CFP quarterfinal. That can still happen with the 12-team CFP even if our conference has BYU and Cincinnati in it.

Agreed...same with Ohio State and Clemson.

What would a realistic scenario be that would take any of those three out of the conversation? 8-4, with a couple losses to .500 teams...maybe?
