Of course everyone heard yesterday when Roger Goodell said the NFL had no knowledge of what actually happened in the elevator. Turns out the police might have provided the NFL offices with the elevator tape 4 months ago.

If this is true, it means either Goodell lied through his teeth yesterday when he said yesterday was the first time he saw the tape, or he is so busy sticking his nose in 32 other houses that he has no idea what's going on in his own house, showing gross incompetence. Either way, ruh roh.

When you proclaim yourself the judge, jury, and executioner of player conduct and discipline, you yourself had better be as pure as the driven snow. That is completely in question after today.

I don't see how he makes it through this. NFL will be searching for a new commissioner soon.

He's got to go. Hopefully the next person in is more responsible and gets away from the 'No Fun League' mentality.

He's gone. It truly is appropriate to call this the Watergate of the NFL.

Anyone have any ideas why Goodell would lie about this though? That's the only part that still baffles me. Why cover this up?

I agree with everyone. He will be gone soon but I'm not complaining. He hasn't seemed like to most competent and is constantly looking for ways to make football boring. This recent news about the NFL having prior knowledge of the video is gravy for him to be out the door.

I think he should be gone, but I'm not sure he will be fired. Some of the higher ranking owners have come out in support of him, and I believe they weren't in the dark on whether the NFL had seen the tape or not.

Did he lie so people would not look at the NFL's players as domestic abusers? Not all the players are ******* ********, anyway, whoa man.

No way a majority of the owners vote to get rid of him. I don't see any way he is gone unless he leaves on his , and I don't see that happening.

I think he just thought this would be out of the news stream quickly, like similar domestic abuse cases in the past. Greg Hardy was arrested this offseason as well, and the police report for that incident is pretty gruesome as well, but he hasn't been suspended. I don't think Goodell wanted to set a precedent of year long suspensions for domestic abuse, the league it's share of not so good guys after all. He would rather pay lip service to being tough on crime rather than actually have to dole out excessive punishments.

I just don't understand why he would lie about the tape. He has to know it was going to come out that the NFL had the tape. (If that's indeed the case)

The League is "No Fun" because the majority of the league owners want it that way. If Goodell was going against the owners' wishes in that respect, he would be fired. It always fascinates me how people think these league commissioners are just out there on their own doing whatever they please.

You're right... he has made the owners too much money under his watch to lose their support.
