He has really ****ed this up from the start. Even without the tape he had to know what went on in that elevator.

The Espn legal analyst just made a good point. If it's discovered that the league had the tape back in April, then Rice's suspension probably can't be extended past the original 2 games, since there wouldn't have been any of the "new" evidence that the league used to justify additional punishment. Now, a team would still have to sign him, and that isn't too likely, but the CBA has a double jeopardy clause, and anything beyond 2 games almost certainly wouldn't stand up to appeal.

The length of his suspension is a minor detail at this point. Michael Vick aside, nobody is going to want to touch Rice anyway.

I wonder if Rice will go after his salary. I am not sure he or his wife think he did anything wrong.

He won't go anywhere. Goodell has made the owners a ton of money, and that is what the league is about. They'll issue an apology.

Nailed it. He's presided over the richest tv network deal in league history, successfully negotiated a CBA that tilts in favor of the owners, and franchise values have never been higher. No way the owners look at that and say, "He's gotta go."

And he's already started laying the foundation for getting out of this latest fiasco. The key point in that interview with Norah O'Donnell was when she asked if anyone at the league office had seen the elevator security footage before Monday. He answered, "No...not to my knowledge."

That gives him an out if an investigation proves that the league did actually get a copy of the tape months ago. It's still not perfect because it paints him as negligent, but it's better than admitting to lying and willfully ignoring evidence. Someone else down the chain can take the fall for not showing Goodell the tape, he can get a slap on the wrist, and this all goes away.

No way a majority of the owners vote to get rid of him. I don't see any way he is gone unless he leaves on his , and I don't see that happening.

Agreed. At this point, there appear to be too many owners that still back him. That may change if it's discovered he did know about the tape.

Celo Greene says if she lost consciousness she wasn't even "with" Rice at the time, therefore he couldn't have hit her. People who have been knocked out remember it.

This would be good news for Rice - except Goodell is judge, jury, and executioner - and all appeals go through him. Has Goodell overturned one of his own rulings on appeal yet?

actually, it would go through an arbitrator. The NFLPA would probably insist on it.

Probably bring Paul Tagliabue back again to clean up the mess, just like the bounty suspensions he came back to undo.

Think he makes about $25M a year. Yes, a big screwup.

I heard on ESPN yesterday that either in 2012 or 2013, Goodell made upwards of 44 million. That's insane but when you're the commissioner of a league that makes multi billions and isn't slow down, you make that kind of bank

I'm guessing if this is the end for Goodell...he's going to get a hell of a severance package

If this is true it will be interesting to see who the person is that received the tape (They don't know if was an exec or not) from the NFL office and what they did with it. Goodell might as well resign before he gets fired. The law enforcement official who wants anonymity has a 12 second audio of the person from the NFL office acknowledging receiving the tape and saying how awful it was. ?

Amazing the salary that clown brings in and the league is "non-profit" makes no sense at all.

Godell was quoted during the Saint's scandal as saying, "Ignorance is not an excuse."

He is a hypocrite and a liar. He needs to go.
