One thing I have to applaud today: After 3 OC and 6 years ISU finally lined up in the I, QB under center, FB in the game and ran.

Yeah, the league is very athletic so we should go with finesse, out-run them, get in space and out-athlete them, with stuff they see every week. We should also try to make sure there are as many possessions as possible so that we can get a large sample size and let our superior talent come through. It is a nice change of pace for us but we cannot do w/ sustainability it as we are not built for it.
Outdated way of playing that could not thrive in today's Big 12. the game has advanced and is too athletic (in this league) to line up and smash the ball.

ISU can not just run out of the I all the time, but it is nice to have that option on 3rd and 1, if it ever gets to the point that the read option to the short side of the field doesn't work.
Did you actually watch the game? Not a lot of holes today/this seasonMaybe next game the backs will run to the holes instead of to the pile of players.

The spread at one time was new and also gave you something different to look for in recruits than other programs. Not any more.
You might want to send Bill Snyder a letter via snail mail and let him know that physical football can't win Big 12 games. IMO being a contrarian is a good thing. KSU is a unique practice week for Big 12 teams. Compare that to all the spread teams: ISU, BU, OSU, TT and OU

He uses I and pro-set tendency when they can in short yardage or due to match- up. How he uses Gronk is how we should have used Woody.
ISU would be at an even greater recruiting disadvantage if it goes back to the old stuff. No athlete from warm weather is coming here to run a set that does not showcase them in a league known for it wide open play.
Offense when up against two superior foes the past two weeks. It will look better moving forward.
You need to rethink this statement. There are a lot of things wrong with it.Bill runs spread.

It is too bad CPR did not use this logic when he was hired in 2008.Iowa State can't just change to using traditional sets and suddenly be more successful. Maybe over a couple years when it recruits for that then success would come, but it wouldn't be immediate. People need to understand Rhoads recruited for the spread. Switching to traditional sets would set everything back a couple years, which is why it was not an option for him to change offensive systems when Herman left, or when he let go of Mess.

I think you are over-estimating our ability to get spread players. Recruited for it or not, guys are not exactly executing the spread right now either. Can it get worse than the offense preventing us from winning?
Yes, but that usually is because a lot of coaches go with what they know. That makes sense. It is clear that is not the case in this transition. In CPR's defense, a lot of coaches change systems when they are hired. In the first couple of seasons too Herman went more run based. While still a spread, it utilized the downhill run game much more than we are accustomed to now and still worked to utilize the offenses strengths.
