Yeah, a lot of Californians don't give a rip about college sports. However, it's not the proportion of the population that cares about college sports that matters, it's the total number of persons who care about college sports.

With a population of only 3 million, I'm guessing there are fewer Iowans who care about college sports compared to all of southern California.

More importantly, SDSU is located in the Pacific time zone, and is the Pac's only natural expansion option.

All that said, I'm fine if the Big 12 doesn't pick up SDSU. I just don't think they're as horrible an option as others do.
Don’t discount the Cyclones fans/ISU alumni that live outside of Iowa that are watching. Are SDSU grads watching? I’ve heard they mostly don’t care.

Idk. Can’t help but feel there is a 3D chess move here for Yormark. SDSU could be offered a partial share at $10 million and they would jump at it. Make future earnings subject to earn-out metrics based on viewership, attendance, fundraising, spending, wins, etc.

It would deny the PAC their #1 expansion target and give the Big 12 a foothold in California at a bargain rate.

I could see this working if Yormark only feels like one PAC team will jump. If both CU and AU are jumping, never mind.

This is actually perfect for San Diego. If they get an offer from the PAC-12 in the next couple months they get to leave for the pre June 30 lower buyout because the Mountain West said they’re out. If no offer comes they seem to have pretty good legal grounds to argue they didn’t formally leave and they’ll get the withheld money. They’re basically getting a free extension because the Mountain West is throwing a fit.
It is far from perfect for SDSU because the PAC-12/Big 12 can absolutely dictate the terms of any invite because SDSU has zero leverage as they have no home and owe $17 in buyout payouts to MWC. If I’m the Big 12 they are likely coming in at a 20% share for the first couple years then moving to 50%, etc. Nothing would prevent a Power 5 conference from saying it will take you 8 years to become a full member.

I love how SDSU fans aspire to be in the PAC With the prestigious likes of Cal and Stanford.

SDSU post

Hey Aztecs, have you seen the attendance at revenue sports in the PAC? Scoff all you want about a trip to Ames but at least the football and basketball will be relevant. Oh, and we can hold our own with the Olympic sports.

The only lure for me with SDSU is if BY can leverage them as a SoCal Media play. The fact they have not signed to ANY new conference leads me to believe advertising execs don't see the value.

What a profound ****up.

How do you withdraw from your current conference without a secure invite to another one unless you intended to go independent the whole time like BYU did leaving the MWC?

How...?!!

If that other conference was telling you things that would make you believe you are okay to go down that road.

It’s this. Wouldn’t be surprised if SDSU sues they include the PAC12 in their case.

Testifying
Shouldn't this fiasco warrant canning an AD/school prez at SDSU?

Why is this a case against the Pac12?
If you have another company trying to hire you they going to say a whole bunch of nice things about you, but you don't leave your current job before you have a firm offer in hand. SDSU just quit their job with nothing firm.

You sue everyone involved. But then again, maybe don’t sue your potential new spouse before the engagement?

100% one of them has to be terminated. That initial letter should have seen both of their eyes. If not, the AD is for sure gone. If it did see both of their eyes, I don't know how either remains employed long-term.

Not sure what you could sue the PAC for though? I'm assuming no official invitation was extended to SDSU by the PAC. I'm sure the PAC and SDSU has everything outlined and ready to go, except for formal documents.

The first rule of law is: anybody with money gets sued.
