Seems like a move you make when no one applies or reaches out with interest.
Not necessarily. I think CMC has only known promote from within, he’s used to being good. Sure, Nate coached with Manning, but that isn’t all he knows. He’s not from Mt Union or Toledo. Nates a former QB, not former OL. Nates coached RB’s and WR’s(and again played QB), Manning coached OL and TE’s. They are different.

But funny story at my work, we had three pretty bad managers since 2020 who were all outside hires. The newest one was someone they promoted from within and he’s been a home run hire.

Your key statement, he is gonna climb back up with guys he knows and trusts. Rhoads failed here and he tried to climb back up with 2 dipshits in Mangino and Pistol guy.

Not exactly sure.
That's klenakis I think. Sturdy was right after mangino I think and before messingham.
Sturdy that was the name I couldn’t come up with. Klenakis like the tall skinny linemen right? CPR let people have too much control and that had the offense in uphevel all the time with all the changes

I might be mistaken but I think we had 2 offensive coordinators one year I was in school with him and maybe mangino.

CPR started with Herman, and when he left he wanted Mess to keep running Herman’s offense. It was all down hill after that.

"How bout a game of hangman? Bang bang."
Apologies.
Have I created fanfiction in my mind, where Klenakis appears anywhere pistol is mentioned on the internet ala Candyman, and taunts you into saying pi*tol again, which manifests his lifeless, toothsome stare immediately behind you, from wherever you hence post?

Yes. Yes I have.

He is a smart guy by all accounts. He would have had no problem finding another job. Why would he stay if he couldn't put his stamp on the offense? If things were to stay the same, it would only hurt his future. He must also think there is potential for better results to put on his resume.
Hope you're right. Hopefully his star will continue to rise. Good insight.

Not sure how I feel about the new young OC. I like that he is marketed as a young up and coming assistant, rising star, future head coach material and all that...but how much of it is just lip service?

The guy has been the WR coach since 2018. Since 2018, Iowa State has had good receivers such as Xavier Hutchinson, Deshaunte Jones (inherited) and Hakeem Butler (inherited and coached for one season), and LaMichael Pettway (grad transfer). Jury is still out, but Jaylin Noel will probably slide into this tier before he's done in Ames. So in essence, only one of these guys started with Scheelhaase, and he is undeniably an NFL type of talent. Didn't most of our fan base just bag on Manning for only having success due to the NFL caliber players in the program? Instant red flag.

Scheelhaase has either recruited a lot of misses in the WR room or has failed to develop them. Josh Johnson, Joe Scates, Tarique Milton, and Sean Shaw were all guys that flashed ability but ultimately didn't develop or progress and moved on. What about guys that we have heard about in spring and fall camp but never amount to anything on Saturday? Aidan Bitter, Daniel Jackson, Darren Wilson, Ezeriah Anderson etc.

I get that Scheelhaase is touted as an elite recruiter and good coach to have on the sidelines and locker room etc. If he's a culture guy, that's a win. But I don't see a lot of tangible success that he's had to warrant the promotion. I don't know how different the results will be than they were with Manning. If it's as simple as the players liking Nate more than they liked Tom, then that's fine, so be it I guess.

He knew the right people. That’s how he got promoted. Like 90% of the population. Let’s see how he does.

I remember when he played at Illinois.

I googled it and he's only 32. That's not old enough to do much of anything, let alone try to turn around a terrible offense. He should apply again in 5 or 6 years.

Not impressed at all by this hire.
I have seen some bad takes on this page, but wow, this takes the cake. There's too many ways to rebuttal this, so Ill use Collin Klein as my example. 33 years old, just won the big 12 Championship game. Age has nothing to do with it, Boomer

Yeah the age take is a bad one. Campbell has been a head coach since he was Nate's age.

Nate was a mobile QB himself, I bet he lets Dekkers move around a little more than Manning, who was an OL guy himself and put more emphasis on protecting the QB.
If I am Tom Manning, I am doing my best to delete OL coach off my resume. You would think a guy with OL experience would know how to coach OL......
