Meyer might have been hyped up because he was from Iowa but he most definitely wasn't hyped up nationally or even in the midwest. I think ISU was his only big offer.
Actually he was a pre-season All-Big 12 QB in 2006, if that counts.

--Remember in 2004 when Blythe had 100yds receiving in the first half against nebraska. And Meyer threw that long pass to Jon Davis. We beat the huskers 34-27. That was a great day.
--Remember Meyer going crazy in the bowl game vs Miami(OH). He was almost unstoppable for most of that game. He had over 100 yds rushing and passing.
--For the rest of my life, whenever I hear "Texas A&M" I will think about Todd Blythe in 2005.
--Shaggy will always have the Cy-hawk trophy of 2007
--Bowen the leading tackler of 2006
--Meyer to Blythe winning triple OT vs Toledo in 2006
Please add as many as you can think of!!
Jon Banks had some great plays and games.
Barkema has had some big touchdown catches.
Milan Moses
Braaksma and Rubin
All of the seniors have been a big part of Cyclone History.
How did that work out? What I meant was that coming in to Iowa State he wasn't highly touted or recruited. But he has been a good QB for us. The best in ISU history? I would say no even though his stats say yes. Sage was pretty dang good and he is still in the NFL after 7 years.
Sage was money, though.
Remember when Brian Boddicker missed 2 free throws and we knocked off Texas in Hilton? Man were we ever rockin the house that day!! That was my freshman year....
I was so pissed off I drank myself stupid and nearly had to go to the hospital in Kansas City due to alcohol poisoning.
Leaders dropped the INT at Nebby.
I think we'll all remember this year's seniors as the kids who almost took ISU to the Big 12 championship game two years in a row. The reason why so many are disappointed with them has a lot to do with ISU's nondescript history and how that could have all changed in 2004 or 2005. Eventually we will get there with Chizik though and it will be even sweeter when we do... partly because of how close this year's seniors came to breaking through. Just think about it. We would not have been able to hire Chizik if it wasn't for the success that Meyer, Blythe, Bowen, etc. had and the excitement they created. Had ISU followed up the 2-10 season in 2003 with another 2-10 season in 2004, Mac would have been out the door in 2005, and our new coach would not have been Gene Chizik.
I hate to be in the negative camp but I'm along the lines of StLouisClone... while this year's seniors definitly did some good things, they really stand out as the group that missed a chance at something better.
That aside, thank you seniors for your hard work these last few years
Don't say anything negative about anybody. It's all flower and bunnies around here.![]()
