The biggest thing for me on the Freyler call was that nothing was seen or called on the field. Some Baylor lover official in the booth decided to look at that and radio down to the field and stop play immediately so they could throw probably our 2nd best defensive player out of the game.
Okay.... fine.... whatever. You've decided on one of the first plays of the game what the standard for the day is going to be for 'targeting'. You're going to call it tight, and if it's even questionable you've decided you're going to toss guys out of the game. Fine. At least we know now how it's going to be called.
So the ISU players had to start being a little less aggressive and hold back a bit..... we couldn't afford to get anyone else on defense thrown out of the game.
But Baylor was still being very aggressive.... but nothing getting called on them for hits just as bad as Freyler's, or in some cases even worse. #20 for Baylor should have been thrown out twice (I know that's impossible). Doyle should have been thrown out for his hit on Brock that knocked him out of the game for a few plays. After the game Brock was asked about that hit and he said he had a stinger in his chest and said something to the affect that it's hard to sustain getting hit with the crown of the helmet right to your chest. That's the definition of 'targeting'. Was it looked at upstairs though and called down..... nope.
And then a few plays later, Johnson gets 15 yds for a below the waist hit, which was actually to the shoulder area. That one was an even far worse call than Freyler's by far. So now what do our defensive players think they can do and what they cannot do after those 2 calls? And that is why I was glad CMC called the timeout right there to rip those officials a new one. He was telling those officials... "how do you expect our players to be able to compete and play the game out there?".
It put all our defenders on edge the rest of the game wondering if they were going to get ejected, and so they played a bit more cautious. It was total BS. It was not a competitive playing field out there from that moment on IMO.
This is all just clear fact and 0% chance it can all just be luck or chance.
