Lose in 1st round of NCAA=nothing else in the season matters!

Make it to the sweet 16 = well we made the sweet 16 this year BUT...everything in the regular season

My grade is a much different grade after being Chicago and watching the warm-up, the second warm-up, and comparing the game plan executed compared to the volumes of reading on Bennet's defense. It has somewhat shaded my view of the coaching and execution throughout the season. I am troubled but cautiously optimistic. I have decided to view this season as an audit class of pass or fail. He has passed but need much more fact pattern to have a greater confidence index.

I agree. Bennett coached circles around our guy on Friday, or at least that's how I perceived it. Credit to where it is due, Bennett's a great coach who learned from a great coach, but I do agree with the troubling assessment, and wait and see.

I think CSP did an admirable job with the head case McKay ( and finding out he was coddled by Fred - re: Bulls) and we know how that ends ( insert McDermott + Brackens - Wesley Johnson for coddling). The lack of a bench ( Fred) made his job harder - and losing Naz was a killer. So - give the guy an A -. Now we see how he fills the low post to make this an awesome team!

B+. A ton of adversity and adjustments to a new staff. Navigated that to a good accomplishment, all things considered. With Naz, I think my expectation was Elite Eight, with Final Four possibilities. Also is bringing in a pretty exciting recruiting class that he put together on a shortened time table.

Agree with this. Expectations were inflated due to a strong starting five with Naz and ignoring the lack of bench, especially when we lose Naz.

Also was fighting an uphill battle with some issues within the team. Georges clearly loves him. That's good enough for me.

Bennetts been in this position like every year for the past 4 years. He's more experienced at the level. That's it. It was Prohms first time at that level.

B.

The season had plenty of ups and downs, but could have been better. He did a pretty good job overall.

If Morris returns and we can get a solid big man, we'll be pretty good next year too, IMO.

Given the roster limitations that SP inherited, I have to give him a B+/A-. We didn't have the physical presence and/or the toughness to advance much further than we did. Not a knock on Jameel or Georges, they just are not half court post defenders. The opportunity for the Final Four ended two years ago when Georges went down with the broken foot. What could have been.

It's fitting the season ended in Chicago in one respect. I think this weekend officially ends the Hoiberg era at ISU.

What would Fred's grade have been if they lost in the Sweet 16 to a 1 seed?

Given that it's Fred, and it would make him the first Cyclone coach to get to a second Sweet 16, I believe we would be trying to invent a grade well beyond an A, naming most of our children Fred, and trying to name many of the streets in Iowa after the Mayor's first name, last name, and nickname.

If Prohm can finish next year at least top 5 in the conference, he should be coach of the year. In all honesty, I think the roster for next year is not that bad. Bowie, Malou, Jackson, J. Long, Young, the return of Naz, and increased minutes for Burton should be enough to replace Niang, Nader, and McKay's production (or at least close to it).

We have been to 5 sweet 16's; Prohm is part of one of those. Anything lower than a B- is crazy. You can argue he inherited a very talented roster, but this talented roster was bounced in round 1 of the tournament last year.

Yea I actually really like the makeup of the roster for next year. Very 2014-esque with the small ball we'll be doing.

Monte // Jackson
Naz // Cooke // Babb (Although I believe that Babb will be put in over Cooke)
Thomas // J. Long
Burton // Bowie // Young
Malou // Ernst // Carter

Not sure how much Carter or the freshmen will play.

Also, we're full on scholarships correct?

Malou, Young, and J.Long sound like they would be better defenders than anyone we currently have. I consider Cooke to be a good defender and Burton can be a good defender at times. I'm not concerned about offensive production, as I think we can replace it. We might be better defensively based on the toughness of the new players.

The one thing we'll be missing, which I don't know how we'll replace yet, is Niang's clutchness. Every time we absolutely needed a basket, he was the go to guy and scored in those situations about 80% of the time (based on my completely arbitrary estimate). It might be that someone else on the team steps into that role, but not sure who it will be.

I voted "jury still out". We made the sweet 16 which is great, but we played 2 double-digit seeds to get there. Still a very good accomplishment. However, we finished 6th in our conference with a very talented roster. I am looking forward to next year!

This. His numbers can be replaced, this team will have 4 double digit scorers coming back, 4 guys that you would expect to improve and be even better next year. They will still lack a go to guy, I'd say Monte would be the most likely candidate. He seems to be able to get easy baskets when we need them, when he's healthy. I really wish he would rely more on his mid range jumper than the 3, that's almost like a layup for him.

Late in the season, I was wondering why Prohm was not playing Burton more. Then Burton tried that 360 dunk in the tournament, and everything became clear. I doubted a lot of Prohm's moves early, like how much he played the starters, but later in the year it was clear that there was a pretty big drop-off to our bench, and that made me feel Prohm's pain a bit more than I had before.

I'm not sure what Prohm could have done better except not call timeouts after ISU baskets, so that deserves an A minus.

Once that initial run was stopped. It was a checkmate game. We could not get closer than 9, but the game also did not run away. There were some in game adjustments that worked or it would have been a 30 point blowout. It was a 9/10 point game until the late game press.
