I think Zeb's run was telling. TCU was not committing anyone to defending Zeb. A dual threat QB would have opened up the pass defense some.

I thought our guys played their hearts out. I can't believe peo pl e bashing our OLine. They were manhandling TCU down the stretch. Honestly Zebs inaccuracy in passing was the deal breaker in this game imo.
It took 206 replies for someone to get it. I've been giggling a little bit every time someone says that he needs to hire an OC. That's not the case. The QB needs to put the ball in the hands of the receiver, rather than over his head. I hate to call out theplayer, but Zeb was wildly inaccurate yesterday. No gameplan can overcome poor execution.

The standard has been raised for sure... gone for now are the days when we get killed by 40 in games like this. However, it is beyond frustrating to be so close and yet so far.

Boy we have become a bunch of football prudes in just one year of success. This program is in better shape than at any time in the 45 years I have been following the Cyclones. We knew the front of the schedule was going to be tough. CMC is a great coach, let's let him do his job.

When TCU got a first down inside the 20 with a minute + remaining, ISU still had 3 timeouts remaining. It was obvious they would run the ball inside the hashes, consume those timeouts, and, failing a TD, would kick that chip shot FG for the win. CMC, wise beyond his years, did what any seasoned college football coach would do. He left his best unit on the field with the hope they might come up with yet another turnover, or that the TCU kicker would choke.

At 8:59 pm on the Official game day thready, mtowncyclone13 summarized the moment with the comment "Ball game". This was no ordinary opponent. Gary Patterson would not allow this win slip away. But the score was tied, and over a minute remaining. Was there no other option that to just follow the cultural imperative?

What if, in that moment, CMC had elected to instead just let TCU score the touchdown? In that scenario, ISU gets the ball back with a minute on the clock and 3 timeouts remaining. In hockey, the tactic is referred to as *"pull the goalie", a concept with no cultural equivalent in American football. The offense sputtered throughout the evening, but their only true drive occurred in the 4Q. What if they had been handed this one last shot at redemption?

* This is also a contemporary reference to Malcolm Gladwell's 12 Rules for Life, which is episode 7, season 3 of of his podcast series Revisionist History. When you have 45 minutes, it is worth a listen.

Your inability to understand probability is not my problem.

Weak sauce response. The very thing we wished to avoid happening by running out the clock at the end of the half happened on the very next possession, two plays later. Meantime, if Campbell had decided to try to push for a score on that last possession of the first half and the same had occurred then he would have been crucified and everyone on here would have been screaming about it, probabilities be damned.

So as long as we aren't losing, we should always kneel out the first half when we have the opportunity? The probability of turnover or pick-6/scoop-and-score doesn't change based on whether there's 30 or 60 or 120 seconds left. That's what you're advocating. The fact that a scoop-and-score happened randomly later in the game has no bearing on what our end of half strategy should be, other than to cause people to be unnecessarily conservative.

He needs to scramble. Just the threat changes the D.
Let's hope that successful scramble changes everything for Zeb. The offense really clicked on that series after that. He needs to run occasionally, it changes the defense. Despite what some on here think we don't need a dual threat qback, just one who is a threat to run sometimes.

Has anyone seen an update on DM? Really took the wind out of our sails when he went down. ISU was actually running the ball for the first time all game. I like their chances with DM on that last drive. Not so much with Croney
You mean that drive with like 30 seconds left? I don't think DM's running would have made much of a difference on that one. We do need him back and healthy. The expert coaches on here need to stop getting upset when he rests a series. It needs to be a running back by committee effort if he is going to make it through the season.

Missed tackles and bad angles and giving up multiple big 3rd downs is not good defense, no matter how much of a positive spin you want.

10 points is good but what was going on between those 10 is not.

It's the strength of the team, so that's nice to have.
We are in
It’s funny how half the people here wouldn’t be ******** nearly as much if we were listed at 2-3 instead of 1-3.

Or maybe he realizes the offense is seriously challenged.

At some point you just have to find a way to win. These kind of games are there for the taking. We’re further away than I thought.

Yeah, I miss the days when we would lose this game by 4 touchdowns like with the previous staff, the one before it, and the one before that, etc. This team is close and the staff is much better than this board is giving them credit for right now. On the OC, I'm sure MC would have loved to hire a good OC that fit his system, but remember how late Manning left. Campbell likely would have been settling on who he could get. Better long term solution to hire in the normal coaching cycle after this season.
