So wait, based on a rumor above, ND would RENEW their NBC contract in 2015 even if they joined us in all sports?

Why would the Big 12 allow that? I would think the ONLY deal that would be made is for ND to join in all sports now and must join in football once their contract is up. If we take them knowing full well they'll stay independent in football forever, we're damn fools.

nothing is confirmed, but i would assume that ND becomes full member in 2015 while the conference grows to 16.

Ask ESPN how much national pull Texas has. Their network will be viewed by less people than the Sooner Network. No way in hell is Texas worth more without the Big 12. ND used to be the biggest pull in the country and now no one watches them win or lose. A lot of their games will likely move to the NBC Sports Network. And if the format for the new playoff is the top 4 and not conference winners, being independent is useless. No one is going to schedule ND going forward especially if conferences continue to become larger. Big 10 has made a scheduling pact with the PAC 12 and I see a similar agreement with the SEC and Big 12 in the near future. You guys realize this is going to be the PAC 12/SEC/Big 10/Big 12 and ND BUT this will be about strength of schedule so ND cant go undefeated by only playing MAC teams and expect to be part of the playoff?

Same goes for those in a conference (ACC: most of your football teams suck, and SEC: quit playing Eastern Carolina State University at the beginning and middle of your season). What the new BCS is doing is forcing teams to have a high SOS, and with ND's (now undeserved) notoriety, they are available for scheduling to many good teams who need a stronger SOS...which in turn makes ND's SOS stronger. What potentially hurts ND is the "special consideration for conference champions" clause that they keep bringing up...but ND was at the meetings in Chicago (that seemed very weird honestly...all conference commissioners and then one lousy AD gets to go too?) so I would have to think they still have a sweetheart "special consideration to ND" clause in there too.

People are, understandably, too burned by the last couple rounds of re-alignment to see the potential benefit of ND joining partially. The tv rights are too locked up for the conference to destabilize now. So why, with the benefits of adding ND for basketball being so minimal, are we entertaining this? Because it would guarantee big time non-conference games for the big guys like OU and UT. I suspect that the belief is that we may be able to sell ESPN/Fox on us going back to an 8-game conference schedule if we can guarantee that there will be valuable non-conference games to make up the difference. Being able to promise at least one Notre Dame game at a Big 12 stadium would do a lot on that front.

Because Texas wants ND on it's non-con schedule every year (Possibly on Thanksgiving). The rest of the Big 12 is giving in in order to get FSU & Clemson. Obviously ND needs us for any type of decent strength of schedule as an Indy.

This is all a big mistake, I would rather stay at 10, than have ND as a partial member in any capacity.

Once the Grant of rights runs out, Texas starts strongholding the conference, and threatens football independence, and things start falling apart again.

Once again Texas bullying everyone else for their own agenda. Things haven't changed that much, other than ISU is finally making some decent money for the time being.

Notre Dame shoots down Big 12 rumor

But, no, the Irish will not shift allegiance of other sports to the Big 12 soon, as a report contended could occur by the end of summer.

"I saw that and I thought (Bob) Bowlsby and I should hold hands up there," Swarbrick joked, alluding to the incoming Big 12 commissioner. "I have no idea what prompted that. It is not based on any discussion, any meeting we have done."

"I've said all along that there were three important factors for us," Swarbrick said. "One was the resolution of postseason football, which we are closer to. One is a resolution of our media relationship, which we are in the homestretch of.

"The third is related to the stability of the Big East, which we get more information on every day. In that sense, pieces of that are starting to fall into place, and that will put us in a time and place where we probably take a look at it and decide what we're doing."

Stability of the Big East? Sounds like some wiggle room to me.

Good post. But ND is going to have a hell of a job scheduling going forward. And I dont even think Texas is dumb enough to agree with ND on a having 6 games a year scheduled with the Big 12 teams. Basically Big 12 gets no added bonus for that with the tv deal.

Also to all the people in the tin foil hats. Texas made over 35 million in tv revenue this season, would they even top 20 million without the Big 12? And who are they going to play? A single institution can only market themselves so much.

No, they would get zero dollars because they would have to forfeit all that money to the Big 12.

Teams would jump off a bridge to schedule a home & home in the fertile Texas recruiting ground against the largest draw in the state. Why do you think the big 12 bows down to their every wish?

Who are these BCS level teams going to be with 9 conferences games and conferences making scheduling agreements going forward? There is a reason ND is shaking in their shoes they wont have anyone to play worth a damn after 2015.

This does not count for games on the LHN though right? There is a lot of wiggle room once you have your own network I believe.

Blah blah blah $$$ ND woo. My Catholic *** is sitting drunk in Japan wondering why the hell anyone would care about Notre Dame? Sure we may get some money, but come on. I used to work with a bunch of Notre Dame grads and my God, they are the most insufferable ******** I've ever met. Congrats, you went to Notre freaking dame. I went to Iowa State University of Science and Technology. Ang guess what, we have the same job and get paid the same amount. Yeehaw!
I say let's keep our conference trashy and awesome, I mean come on. We have the states of Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and West Virginia. We're fun, we're loud, we're drunk, and we make a **** ton of money from ESPN and Fox without having to pretend that Notre Dame means a damn more than genuflecting upon history. Don't fix what ain't broke; Big XII @ X.

You conspiracy theorist people are stupid. Adding ND isn't making the conference unstable, Texas isn't going independent.
