So, did the president of the iowa board of regents meet with the kansas president of their BOR?

That was a phone call, and an intriguing post:

Iowa Regents president to speak with University of Kansas Regents president this afternoon regarding Big 12 issues is.gd/SwbvcL

What could this be about?

(Click the "is.gd...." link for the article.)

I presume the phone call took place. I doubt that we will ever know more.

At the time this was posted yesterday afternoon, at 3:02, the facts on this board were that it seemed possible that OSU would not gain admittance to the PAC, and that MU had a ticket to the SEC.

In all honesty, what immediately crossed my mind was KU and ISU to the PAC?

Obviously, probably not, but it is good to see what appears to have been some, in the heat of the battle and at the 11th hour, communication and coordination between KU and ISU regents.

The one thing that most people are forgetting is that it appears in voting it is now 8-1. UT lost 2 of it's biggest allies in ATM and NU, plus it looks like their final ally in power struggles OU is siding with the rest of the conference. UT knows they don't have the votes to push their agendas anymore and any team brought into the conference will vote for stability and not favoring the top 3-4 programs. They now see their voting power is gone and might as well become a team member and be filthy rich instead of being a dictator while being filthy rich.

For real. They've got the hottest babes, best Athl. Dept., best school, best town, best brand, best recruits, SXSW, that cool bat bridge, most donors, did I mention hottest babes? C'mon UT, we get it, you win. Let's just hug it out and let your little brothers have a slice of the pie.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but is there any news out of the BE AD meetings? Or have they not taken place yet.

Big East commissioner John Marinatto said Tuesday that all of the members of his conference are committed to staying together, the result of a three-hour meeting in New York between presidents and athletic directors from the Big East football schools.

There's mention of WV being turned down by the ACC and SEC. Even if WV is available, why would we want what others don't?

The real question to ask is whether Boomer ever shows his face on this message board again? That guy went off the realignment deep end. I think he was believing OU could move the sun and stars by asking. It is a shame since he provided some very good posts to the site before the craziness began.

He will be back. He was just a part of the OU machine that was spewing misinformation to gain the upper hand on Texas. Bravo Boomer.... Bravo good sir. :jimlad:

Report: UConn, Rutgers did not pledge to stay in the Big East - The UConn Blog

After last night's Big East football meeting commissioner John Marrinatto said that all of the remaining Big East football schools pledged to stay together. Reports surfaced almost instantly that despite the pledge UConn was still looking to go elsewhere. Now, the AP is reporting that multiple UConn officials are saying that not only is UConn continuing to explore its options, but that the school did not pledge to stay in the conference. The officials added that Rutgers also refused to take the pledge.

Not exactly sure.
Wow. Just got caught up again after reading about 10 pages and giving up and skimming the last 10. One thing that hit me that I didn't read anybody post about was one of OU's comments to ESPN. They talked about stability with the contract being 6 or 7 or something like that.

I think they are throwing out the 5 number to see if they can renegotiate their tier 1 contract or see how ESPN perceives us compared to the PAC. If the 1 and 2s are higher, we should be very stable. If lower, that could be a little problem.

They may also be seeing if they can redo numbers if we add teams, so we don't go to 12 and carve the pie into more pieces.

Light Bulb just went off for me.

We are going to share 1st and 2nd Tier money equally...that goes without saying. Third Tier will remain with the individual institutaions (i.e. UT can keep their LHN). There will be rules around what is allowed for content on those 3rd Tier rights though (no HS games/highlight, no conference games, etc).
Now...hear me out...everyone keeps saying the other teams should band together and form a B12 network less UT. Problem is geography and amount of demand/TVs is limited with the remaining markets. IF we add the remaining BE schools, we could have a footprint over the Eastern half of the US and potentially now 15 markets that would make the B12 network less Texas much more economically feasible and profitable for all the other institutions. I could honestly see this adding up to another few million per school per year. I don't think that would be the case less the BE schools.
In this model, nobody is PO'd at UT's financial gain from LHN and as long as content is controlled, 1st & 2nd Tier is shared equally, and we get a new commish, everybody should be happy for the long haul.

I like it!
Use a pod system to group the teams and you may have something there. Almost anything to increase ISU's revenue is a good thing.

And seriously? "You can't beat us so you root for our conference to explode". If you are going to discuss this with me, at least bring rational arguments to the table. Iowa is 37-17 against ISU all time - including 6-2 in the last 8. I think you better reevaluate your position just a bit - no team can win them all, but I'll take a damn near 70% win percentage any day of the week VS. any opponent.

Hey hawkfan,
Your mighty hawkeyes have a losing record against ISU for the 13 years that Ferentz has coached there. 70% winning percentage?
Please, take this discussion to the In-State Rivals forum.

Well, it looks like our man DeLoss says the LHN is untouchable, non-negotiable. So I think we can abandon any hopes of true, long-term stability.

See you at next summer's 15,000-post thread about who's leaving. OU to SEC is my early bet.
Direct message to DeLoss Dodds: Where is UT athletics going to go if you bail on the Big12? If you go independent, have fun having your Olympic sports in the MWC or C-USA if they take your non-rev sports.

I agree.

And I think that, at this point, ISU needs to be looking closely at setting up an online "network" for our 3rd tier games - something a step up from the clone zone.

I suspect that, if done right (and perhaps as a collaboration with some of the other Forgotten 4/5) such a model could end up generating substantial income. Not UT income, but substantial for us.
Per OutKicktheCoverage blog, Yahoo Sports may be looking to set up such a network. The "little eight" could leverage Yahoo's assets (tens of Billion$) to gain large market share. Maybe the beginning of the end of ESPN's college sports dominance?

Yeah its pretty convenient that the 5 year time table lines up with the ending of the tier one rights. Negotiate there see what happens and maybe it all blows up there.

I guess another option could be that it protects the schools and ESPN from lawsuits when they decide to leave the conference because there would be no buyouts to pay and no litigation against ESPN. If you believe that ESPN is the driving force behind all of this realignment this theory seems to make sense.

Sorry for the randomness I'm just thinking and typing.

If this is all a big game of poker to OU, why are they showing their hand before Texas folds and putting these articles out there before anyone signs off on these reforms?
Because the Pac12 called OU's bluff. Now they need to spin that staying in the Big12 was their intent all along.
