Light Bulb just went off for me.

We are going to share 1st and 2nd Tier money equally...that goes without saying. Third Tier will remain with the individual institutaions (i.e. UT can keep their LHN). There will be rules around what is allowed for content on those 3rd Tier rights though (no HS games/highlight, no conference games, etc).
Now...hear me out...everyone keeps saying the other teams should band together and form a B12 network less UT. Problem is geography and amount of demand/TVs is limited with the remaining markets. IF we add the remaining BE schools, we could have a footprint over the Eastern half of the US and potentially now 15 markets that would make the B12 network less Texas much more economically feasible and profitable for all the other institutions. I could honestly see this adding up to another few million per school per year. I don't think that would be the case less the BE schools.
In this model, nobody is PO'd at UT's financial gain from LHN and as long as content is controlled, 1st & 2nd Tier is shared equally, and we get a new commish, everybody should be happy for the long haul.

I like it!

I agree, with the stipulations as you noted. As long as the LHN isn't sapping the quality out of the lineup that we offer, and not giving UT a huge recruiting advantage through high school games, I see no reason why individual members shouldn't retain their rights to do their own thing.

I agree.

And I think that, at this point, ISU needs to be looking closely at setting up an online "network" for our 3rd tier games - something a step up from the clone zone.

I suspect that, if done right (and perhaps as a collaboration with some of the other Forgotten 4/5) such a model could end up generating substantial income. Not UT income, but substantial for us.

New thought on expansion. I like the idea of adding 3 to get back to 12. I'd like to add BYU immediately for all sports. I'd also like to add Louisville and West Virginia for all sports, after their mandatory 2 year waiting period (which would give us a Conference Championship Game and new markets just in time for the negotiations on 1st tier FB and basketball). In addition, I'd love to see us add the 4 best basketball schools in the Big East to help our mbb negotiations which will be up at the same time -- Notre Dame, Villanova, St. John's, and Georgetown. We'd be at 16 and along with the ACC would be the premier basketball league. Since we'd both be at 16, could make an ACC/Big 12 challenge to replace the Big 10 deal. Would help recruiting tremendously adding Greater Chicago, Philly, DC and NYC to the footprint. Big 12 mbb tournament could rotate between KC and Madison Square Garden. Split the teams into pods of 4 that play each other twice (ours likely KU, KSU, and MU) and play every other conference team once (18 games total as we have now). Here's how it'd break down:

Football

East
Iowa State (cross over KSU)
Missouri (cross over KU)
Texas (cross over OU)
Louisville (cross over BYU)
West Virginia (cross over OSU)
Baylor (cross over TT)

West
Texas Tech (cross over Baylor)
OU (cross over UT)
OSU (cross over West Virginia)
BYU (cross over Louisville)
Kansas (cross over Mizzou)
Kansas State (cross over ISU)

Basketball 4 team pods

Iowa State, Kansas, KSU, Mizzou
St. Johns, Villanova, Georgetown, West Virginia
Notre Dame, Louisville, Texas, Baylor
BYU, OU, OSU, Tech

I don't think the LHN folding into a B12N is a very realistic scenario.

A B12N minus Texas is moreso, maybe Texas can encourage ESPN or Fox to help make it happen.
Personally, let's have the LHN bomb. How much money is ESPN making off the deal at this point? Loss leader? Then let KState get an extra $4m for game two. If the LHN is decapitated due to lack of interest, maybe ast that point UT would go independent. Then we can petition get CU back for fodder after the Pac 12 gets tired of them.

Spin is in full force now...........

Indeed. It's a bad strategic move on their part. DeLoss Dodds sounded pretty defiant in his comments earlier today. I have to imagine Texas is licking its wounds a little bit, having been humbled in the media these past few weeks and stared down by the PAC. I have a feeling they'll be wanting to re-assert themselves soon.

OU should have kept its mouth shut - at the very least until all of these reforms were implemented, if not forever.

I don't know if it has been mentioned yet, but is there any news out of the BE AD meetings? Or have they not taken place yet.

The real question to ask is whether Boomer ever shows his face on this message board again? That guy went off the realignment deep end. I think he was believing OU could move the sun and stars by asking. It is a shame since he provided some very good posts to the site before the craziness began.

Do not like. One of the Big East's biggest problems is (was?) the widely different agendas of the football schools and basketball only members. We do not need to invite that problem to the Big 12. We have enough problems of our own, thank you very much.

The one thing that most people are forgetting is that it appears in voting it is now 8-1. UT lost 2 of it's biggest allies in ATM and NU, plus it looks like their final ally in power struggles OU is siding with the rest of the conference. UT knows they don't have the votes to push their agendas anymore and any team brought into the conference will vote for stability and not favoring the top 3-4 programs. They now see their voting power is gone and might as well become a team member and be filthy rich instead of being a dictator while being filthy rich.

Agreed. Only the naive think this article is how it really went down and OU was our big friend here.

What do you expect them to say right now? They were not intent on sticking to the Big 12 but it's now their only/best option?

No. They're going to say they always were committed to the Big 12, so on and so forth.

Nothing to see here...

There were points during this thread where I thought he should be banned. Where does he get off coming onto our site and spewing baseless crap and claim to be in the know about OU? We can spew our own baseless crap, thank you very much (although some here were right on the money about the end result).

Anyway, I'll be updating my ignore list.
