I just think KFitzy87 couldn't resist over at WRNL. It's not going to be the song.

Actually the Board of Regents signed an agreement with AC/DC that all regent universities must use their music for introductions.

Only reason I'm annoyed is because that is what we came out to for my high school team and that song was over played then.

Meh whatever, at least there is real talent to the guitar in this song. Smoke on the Water is literally the first thing you teach a new guitar player because it is so easy.

Is it too late to vote for Gangnam Style? At least then we would get to see an awesome flash mob from the student section of about 5000 people.

The major issue that people are having with this song isn't that it is old. Plenty of old music is great! Believe it or not, a lot of young people grow up listening to old music with their parents and know it just as well as any new music. The real issue with Thunderstruck is that it doesn't seem to fit the new brand of football that this staff is trying to create. Everything else that we have seen since they have been hired feels fresh and exciting, stuff that has never been done at ISU before. Despite this whole entrance song being blown out of proportion, there is still some expectation that it should be a song that matches this NEW brand of ISU football, something updated, something original, something that differentiates our new staff from every other team around the country. Picking a song that has been played at football stadiums since the dawn of time doesn't seem to meet those expectations. If this does end up being the featured song during the team entrance, it will be extremely underwhelming.

That being said, there are obvious reasons why it was chosen, and it will be better than smoke on the *claps out of sync* water. And to be fair, pleasing 61,500 different musical tastes is pretty tough. I don't blame them for making a safe pick.

For all those that hate it... the fact is, the amount of music that has that forward momentum and is designed to get a stadium going through a build up to an impact is not all that large. Its why a lot of schools are still using older music for that purpose- not a lot has been created since that era passed. Add to that the fact that it has an obvious tie in with Cyclones, and it seems the perfect song.

If you think the entrance song is about directly pumping up the team, you're wrong. Its about pumping up the crowd, and this is a great song for that.

Which part? Part about being caught on railroad tracks?...thunder of guns tearing you apart?...or going down to Texas for some hookers?

While there may only be about 1,000 good songs with momentum out of a million to get a stadium going, the fact that it has the word "thunder" in it does not make it the perfect song to overlook the fact that it is overused.

My hunch is with the youth and media savvy on staff, this is a big troll job. They've been asked "what is the song?" so many times up until this point, they throw out one of the most overused stadium songs in history as a realisticly safe enough option (which may get some people riled up), then boom...absolutely destroy the lowered expectations when they enter the field with towers of flames erupting and smoke billowing through the stampede. Epic...lasting...marketing.

To quote Ivan Drago, "You will lose."

I win right about 0:12 or 0:13 into it...

And it just becomes a slaughter from there. :p

Where's AC/DC got an organ solo like that one?

How do you hook up a church organ to a fuzz box, given that's what it sounds like?

How did those guys ever come down from the high they must have been on to record this...? That whole song (and album, for that matter) is just tripping balls.

"Immigrant Song" by Led Zepplin. It jumps right in, the primal scream, and the references to the frozen north as the northern-most school in a Texas-centric conference. And vikings.

Or I liked that "Warrior" song by Volbeat they used a while back during the intro video.

The obvious 'thunder'? I mean, come on.
it is overused.

Who cares if others use it. Being 'unique' is overrated sometimes. Better to do what works than to try to be edgy and pick something that the crowd doesnt get into\that doesnt work in a large football stadium setting.

Better than "Smoke on the Water," I guess (much better buildup).

Could the vocal track be killed right after the "Thunder! chant" intro, before Brian Johnson comes in? If so, it's passable.

Just because it says thunder? Come on. Weak.

With so many other choices out there, "unique" is a low bar in this case. It is not hard to do better than this song.

This isn't the song, but it's funny the backlash even if it was. It would have been a big time upgrade over smoke on the water, and there's a reason it's overplayed. Plus it fits in with the Cyclone, sound the sirens, a storm is brewing, Iowa State mentality that this staff has embraced and is running with.
