Was he another who was kind of on the fence but Prohm got turned around a bit?

He had a really nice senior year and seemed to really embrace the ISU culture. I still remember Niang having to console him on the bench at the end of the game.

The size and speed are there and it's translated to the type of money I literally can't fathom

Abdel's senior night speech was incredibly touching. It was easy to overlook because Georges is Georges. Basically said something about how he thought about leaving but if he had, he would have missed everything.

I think he could have gotten a better deal. Maybe not the years, but definitely more money.

Is this true? Are there examples of similar D-League (now G-League) players getting much more than that without having played true NBA games previously? I haven't researched enough to say you are wrong, but I'm not convinced that Abdel got a bad deal either. Looking at this :

there are a lot of players with more hype, who were 1st round draft picks, etc, that are making similar money (see : Skal Labissierre, Tyler Ulis, Malcolm Brogdan, Andrew Harrison, et al).

He always seemed like he was in Hoiberg's doghouse a bit. I think he took a bunch of classes in the summer when Hoiberg left so he had grad transfer as an option, but Prohm won him over. Then graduating in December, he could focus a lot more on basketball that last season.

You can't compare 1st round picks because they are on the fixed rookie scale and under team control. I believe Nader was a free agent, which gave him a lot more leverage.

The $/season seems reasonable, but the length seems odd. Unless the last year or two are player-options, it seems like he had gambled against himself.

Yeah, we'll have to wait and see what the terms were. I'll be curious to see how much of it is guaranteed after the first year. Maybe the contract is written to provide both sides an early out.

How does this compare to NBA salaries of Cyclone stars like Fizer, Hoiberg, Hornacek, Brackins, etc.?

I used the second year of the NBA career as comparison.

Hoiberg: 297,000 (worth $463,681.55 today)
Fizer: $2,754,120 (worth $3,811,499.80 today)
Hornacek: $260,000 (worth $538,362.64)
Brackins:$1,404,960 (worth $1,498,958.93 today)

I get where your coming from with the positionless basketball but that has more to do with the front court asking say Towns to play sg is not something that will happen. There is a specific skills needed for the back court still. Kind of why I dont see Nader playing much if any sg. Heck I could see him playing small ball C before he played sg.
I disagree. Seemed to me he played a ton of PG in Maine and did a lot of isolation and getting his own shot. He is definitely going to be used in the backcourt imo.

You understand that is the G league though correct, there is a huge difference skill wise. He could not guard someone like say John Wall.

To be fair, hardly anybody can guard John Wall. Abdel did a pretty good job on Fultz in SL, though.

Nobody said he has to. He's a 3 or a slashing 2 with capable outside shot. I'm just saying he's a perimeter player. Nobody is asking him to shut down one of the best PGs in the league.

DOes anyone know what number nader will wear on the Celtics? Will he keep 51 or will he change it like when minor league players move to the bigs in baseball? I just want to know what number to put on a jersey.

In the NBA I don't really think anyone can guard the top players. Nobody could defend Jordan, Durant, LBJ, AI, etc...

The question that is actually relevant is "Can you defend the average player at your position well" rather than "Can you defend Kevin Durant/LeBron James". The answer to the first usually needs to be yes to be a rotation player, the answer to the second is always "zero players in history".

Can Nader guard the average 2 or 3? With a little work I don't see why not if he puts his mind to it.

Right, and are there even really 2's and 3's now? It's basically point guards and wings and big guys, that's it. The question on defense is can you switch pick and rolls and guard in isolation on the perimeter, and Nader has the athletic ability to do that.

Change number. Change teams. Change leagues. Change countries. Too much variability in pro basketball for me to invest money in jerseys. Good on you for supporting our guys as pros.

With Crowder gone to Cleveland, I wonder if that will open up more space for Nader in the front court. It will be interesting to see how this new roster plays out. I'm almost a Boston fan now.

Or, he could end up being part of the additional compensation the Cavs are going to seek to push the Kyrie trade through. Either way I hope he fights his way into a rotation somewhere.
