Hmm.... not sure if OKC is planning on keeping Nader or waiving him to lower their luxery tax.
Abdel would be an intriguing player for OKC.

@royceyoung The Thunder are trading recently acquired Rodney Purvis to Boston for Abdel Nader. Nader was set to be waived by the Celtics, but the Thunder set up a deal to acquire the 6-foot-6 forward. Nader is on a partially guaranteed deal.

From newsOK.com:

The Thunder agreed to a trade with Boston on Monday, sending Rodney Purvis to the Celtics for forward Abdel Nader.

Purvis had just been acquired by the Thunder on Friday from Orlando in a deal which sent Dakari Johnson to the Magic.

In 48 games for Boston, Nader (6-foot-6, 225 pounds) averaged three points and 1.5 rebounds per game as a rookie, including 35.4 percent from 3-point range. Nader was named the G-League Rookie of the Year in 2016-17, averaging 21.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Maine Red Claws.

According to multiple reports, Nader is on a contract this season which is guaranteed for $450,000, but he's due $1,378,242 if he's on a roster by Aug. 1. Purvis's contract was non-guaranteed.

The Thunder used the trade exception created in the Johnson trade to absorb Nader's salary. The Thunder will also receive cash considerations in the deal.

The trade was first reported by Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports.

The trade keeps the Thunder's roster at 13 players, two under the maximum 15 guaranteed contracts, leaving OKC the option of adding players in a potential two-for-one trade, signing any of its second-round picks (Hamidou Diallo, Devon Hall, Kevin Hervey) to second-round minimum deals, or signing one of its two-way players from a season ago (Daniel Hamilton, P.J. Dozier) to a guaranteed contract.

Along with Diallo, Hall, Hervey, and Timothe Luwawu-Caberrot (Cabbarot was acquired along with Dennis Schroder in the Carmelo Anthony trade to Atlanta), Nader is another young wing the Thunder has acquired this offseason who can slot into multiple positions, closer to what Billy Donovan wants in a shift to a faster, more versatile team with players who can switch at multiple position

My comment: Diallo showed some promise in the Summer League. I have to think they'll sign him to some sort of deal.

"When reached for comment about Abdel Nader moving to Oklahoma, former OSU center Mitchell Solomon could only manage a low wimper and then hung up"

Thunder Wire calls the addition of Abdel Nader "much needed depth" and expects him to stick on the roster.

From the Boston Globe:

Nader’s agent, Cervando Tejeda, said the Thunder have indicated they intend to keep the second-year forward. If Boston had waived Nader, the Thunder would not have been able to acquire Nader on his current contract; he also could have been picked up by another team.

More in the article about his future with the Thunder:

With Nader likely in the mix for the foreseeable future, the Thunder currently have 14 guaranteed contracts on the books for next season and can still add one more contract to the roster and one two-way contract.

While the move to add Nader certainly isn’t franchise-altering, he could develop into a solid role player for the team down the line.

There's also a mention of Deonte Burton.

Wow - a self-described lifelong OU fan writes for NewsOk.com that the Thunder are "getting the gang back together" in uniting Nader and Burton. Really says nice things about the 2015-16 team. Here's his intro:

The 2015-16 Iowa State basketball team was one of the funnest squads in Big 12 history. Incredible balance. The Cyclones had seven really good players, led by Georges Niang. Iowa State had so much balance, it was hard to keep up with everyone. Six players averaged double-digit points, and a seventh averaged 9.7 points.

Another piece on newsok.com talks about Nader as part of Billy Donovan's transition to small-ball or position-less basketball. Here's a blurb on Nader:

In Nader, the Thunder adds a big body with comparable NBA experience — he averaged 10.9 minutes in 48 games as a Celtics rookie, Johnson 5.2 minutes in 31 games with OKC — but potential to fit in a positionless system.

A natural small forward, Nader can slide down to shooting guard or up to power forward. Luwawu-Cabarrot has a similar skill set.

Lest anyone think that the NBA is anything other than a business!

So, did they avoid paying him this $1.3 mil by these moves?

So out of that team and group who sticks around the NBA and collects the most money? Nader, Monte, or Niang.

Thunder will be a very interesting team to watch next year regardless of if Burton and Nader are playing. Schroeder is a fun player when he’s right. Plus, Nerlens Noel is a interesting reclamation project and is a big that can switch on to a lot of guards. Their defense could be very very tough if Roberson comes back strong.

The Celtics were going to avoid the $1.3M payout - and instead be on the hook for $450k (the amount he had guaranteed in Yr. 2) - by waiving him. They found an even cheaper way to handle it by sending him to OKC (and possibly some cash but less than the $450k) for a player that they waived that had no guarantee. OKC gets a cheap bench player ($1.3M) that they kept off the open market; not sure if the guy who was sent to the Celtics had a lower salary number than Abdel. It ended up being a clever move by both parties. Not a great deal for Purvis, the other player involved in the transaction, but it's clear neither team wanted him.

Glad that Nader got his money in the deal.

Only cost them about 900k because he had 450k guaranteed. Very cheap when you consider some of the 20-30+ million dollar players.
