Does ISU attack the hoop, or settle for jump shots (particularly Brackins and the fade-away shot)?
Are 2-3 guys crashing the offensive boards, or just turning and running after the shot goes up?
I really saw two glaring negatives against Northwestern. One, Brackins could not get anything to fall. Everything was a bad bounce this way or that.
Second, Vander Beeken was obviously winded in the last five minutes of the game and against a quick cutting team like Northwestern it hurt us tremendously. That pass to the center and hand off the PG for the easy hoop was the straw that broke the camel's back. Vander Beeken didn't even move to try and fould the guy, he just let him go by.
Both of those issues are correctable. Especially with Vander Beeken and how deep our bench could be.
Not that we won't have issues with UNI but I don't see that game shaping up anything like Northwestern.
UNI is an NCAA tournament team that is returning every starter. ISU hasn't come close to being invited to the dance for several years. And during those last several years, UNI has shown us that they know how to come into Hilton and leave with a victory.
The overconfidence of some of our fans amazes me.
Having said that, I still like our chances given the talented group of athletes we have on this year's squad. While the close loss to NW was a very tough pill to swallow, an early season slap in face could be a very healthy thing. I think it will really help us focus for the UNI game.
Following that theme, we beat them at their place last year in OT, and added Gilstrap, Christopherson and hopefully Dendy.
I'm not overconfident, but neither am I losing any sleep.
I think we win comfortably
UNI has no answer for Brackins and Gilstrap.
ISU just got done with 7 games in 15 days, they are 6-1, along with still being Students and going to school........
Look forward to a Great Game with UNI........Go Panthers!
