I always eat the “worst” thing on my plate first and save the “best” for last. I also don’t mix bites. I’ll start on food 1 and finish it, then move onto food 2, etc.
Forgive my facetiousness in advance.
Let's say you order a burger at a sit-down restaurant.
The top part of the bun is on the side with lettuce, tomato, and onion on it. And there is a little cup of barbecue on the side as well.

Are these not 3 separate "foods" on your plate, and, thus, must be consumed one at a time?
Because, would stacking them together into a fully-formed, traditional burger not be mixing bites?

My favorite food is "casserole" so I tend to make my plate resemble a casserole - everything kind of piled together.

If eating fast food, the fries/side dish must be eaten completely prior to the burger.

I try to bring my leftovers to work for lunch so I try and save what will reheat the best.

That I would consider a burger and “1” food item. I don’t like going from Turkey to stuffing to green bean casserole to Turkey to mashed potatoes, etc.

I follow the Yum! Brands Famous Bowl Procedure (YBFBP). The YBFBP is an innovative approach to fast casual dining that is not only FUN, but enhances the dining experience and to no small point maximizes product consumption rate, reduces waste, and increases profits.

The YBFBP may seem simple, but our proprietary FAMOUS BOWL technique takes all the various food items you intend to enjoy and combines them into one easy and FUN consumable pile.

I do both of these.

I also like to combine foods of different temperatures...

- BBQ pulled pork, baked beans, coleslaw OR potato salad, all in a layered pile.
- Thanksgiving green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, stuffing, and gravy can all be combined.

I strive for that, too, it was a general family guideline when I was young. Wasn't a mandate, but I guess maybe a "goal."

"Take all you want, but eat all you take."
Seeing someone pile a bunch of food on their plate and then throw a ton of it away bothers me at my core.

I watched one of nephews load up on a bunch of fruit and caught him before he threw away a bunch of grapes and strawberries. I'm like, "Wash them off, put them in a baggie and eat them later". He looked at me like I was some Dickensian street urchin. I gave my brother **** about raising a prima donna!

Then you have those OCD people that can't let there food touch other food. Me? I'm a seafood guy. I see food I eat it. That is all.

I don’t like my food to touch at all. Casserole is anathema.

Not exactly sure.
I’m not a big gravy person. Some will bury everything in it. I was at a wedding and things got mixed around. There was this cranberry vinegar salad dressing that was placed by the main courses. This doucher wanted a lot of gravy and asked me if that was some. With a smirk, I’m like you bet it sure is. As he is getting ready to dump it on his plate my wife corrects what I told him. He was drunk and I wanted to see him eat that stuff. Why do wives kill fun?

I eat things in shifts, especially when there's a lot of food, which is why I dread holidays a little. Everyone expects me to fill my plate with everything and eat it all at once. Whenever I do that, I get indigestion and don't enjoy myself. So I'll eat a couple things, wait like an hour, then go back for something else. The only problem with that is, everyone is done eating and the food is put away.

That's my take on it too. I know it isn't healthy to teach your kids to always clean their plate, but I don't pile a bunch of food on their plates either. They dish their own food, and I get annoyed to see them throw away half their plate. Obviously exaggerating, but I feel like we could solve the world hunger problem with the food my kids throw away.

I guess wasting food must be a pet peeve of mine.
