Some dudes out there…
- Freyler was goooood
- Brock ran strong and he has speed; need to contain it
- Noel is a stud
- Silas looked slick

Anything else?

I think our biggest mistake in play calling was not utilizing Silas more on the edge, and with sweeps, and or swing passes to keep defense away from Purdy a little more. Silas could be a game changer the next 2 years. I hope he is a huge part of the offense moving forward.

If I understand you correctly we should never critize players or coaches. We both want the same thing- a programs that wins. I just disagree with where we stand. I know you don't build Rome in a day. This is not Campbell's second year or even third year. He just finished his sixth year! 7-6 after six years is not moving ahead. In my opinion we are not moving forward and foresee some bad years to come.

Well the good news is you're adjusting your expectations lower which gives you room for them to exceed your expectations! It's vicious cycle man. "Low expectations. The gift that keeps on giving." is a favorite quote of mine lol. When you suck, anything positive is great! When you show signs of success, then people expect the world. And when you don't hit those inflated expectations people feel disappointed.

I'm terrified of peoples reactions to this years basketball team. In 3 months we've gone from "can we win 10 games this year" to "Top 10 how far can we run in the tournament". Peoples expectations were REALLY low coming off a 2 win season but how quickly they change.

"They didn't build Rome in a day". JFC with all you chicken little, whoa is me, I gave 10% of my heart to this team so they should so everything they can to make me happy BS. It blows my mind that people still set such unrealistic expectations. This team is not very different from last years team. How many games did we find ourselves in a deficit only to have to rally back and end up winning by 1 score? I know we had 4 games that we won within 1 score. This year we lost 5. All by 1 score. These are the margins the coaching staff talks about.

When it comes to building a dynasty, you are just not going to bring in 20 stud recruits every single year and win year one. You have to start someone. You start small. You START by building a culture. Culture is sustainable. Culture builds that "can-do" "fight till the end" attitude. Once you have that culture and most importantly the confidence that it brings, you start winning games. (We are around this point) When you start winning games then you start bringing in better recruits. Those better recruits develop over a few years and help you start winning even more games. Which brings in even better recruits and so on.

ISU does not have 100 years of legacy with a $100M dollar AD budget to fall back on and help us buy instant success. This is something that has to be built. I'm sorry to break it to you but it can't be built in a day. Think about this, this senior class, the ones that we praise and the ones that have literally given us some of the most exciting and successful football we have ever seen at ISU, were an underappreciated and underrecruited class. The last 5 years, CMC has successfully recruited higher and higher talent. "We'll never be able to replace Lazard/Montgomery/Isheem/etc" but then kids like Buttler/Hall/Freyler show up and show out. That's why we see kids that we love move on as they get pushed out of starting roles by the young talent.

I'm not a confrontational person at all but you have to be pretty ignorant and narcissistic to think that these kids don't deserve our support. How do you think THEY feel? Are your feelings more important than theirs? Sure, I'm disappointed that we didn't make it to the CFP like we all hoped and dreamed we would but to doubt what this team has done for us and the sacrifices they have made...well that's just ******. Have a great day :)

PS: The coffee hasn't hit yet and I'm in a feisty mood after reading the slander on Purdy last night :)
Yes to this.To those that put the pads on,we have to appreciate the effort which is fun to watch.

With less talent in the TE room, maybe add a wing back position with 1 TE? Might be a bit small to run up the middle, but a constant threat of screens and sweeps from him would make things easier for Brock in the traditional RB position.

Really excited for next year. The defense looks like it'll be stout again. The offense is going to have to be completely retooled in the off-season, but we have some really talented pieces returning. Dekkers will need to work on his accuracy a bit and it appears that it'll be RB by committee, but we have some talented ball catchers.

I believe if you look at the past two years at ISU, it's a great data point for assessing how much schedule and luck impacts final record. The same team can go 9-3 or 7-6 depending on schedule and luck.

You look at the same two years and see a stagnant program with a 7 win ceiling. I still see a program that's improving with a 7 win floor (6 in a really bad year). Time will tell who is correct.

I think we are all going to be really pleasantly pleased/surprised with Dekkers. Can't wait to see what he can do as a full-time starter.

The point is we have a fistful of threads that are nothing but criticizing coaches and players. This one was an opportunity to highlight the positive in addition to dwelling on the negative in all the other threads.

Players enter the offseason now. They need to recognize where they need to improve, but they also need some positive reinforcement - that is, recognize what went well. It is a long offseason and there is a lot of work to do. It really helps to have some positive to rely on when that 0500 alarm goes off every morning for that early weight workout.

I thought Sean Shaw looked pretty good. He looked really aggressive going to get the ball. The length and hands have been there but I feel like he's tended to be too passive waiting for the pass to get to him. If he plays like this, he'll be good next year. I think he's coming back.

Along with Noel the receiving corps looked as good as they have in a long time last night.

So with recruiting getting better you see bad years to come?

Can you define what a 'bad year' is now?

6-6 or worse is a bad year now. While I dislike the negativity towards coaches and players, some of the criticism is warranted. But it isn't like the team intentionally screws things up. And the recruiting is getting better, so the long-term upside is there. Damn, this team has played Notre Dame, Oregon, and Clemson in bowl games over the past several years...anyone who thinks that Campbell has tapped out or isn't trying didn't watch him go ballistic when the Clemson player was simulating snap sounds. The guy didn't do it again. And if you didn't think Dabo was coaching his ass off, then I'm not sure what you were watching...he was.

Does the play calling need some improvement...definitely. But don't judge the offense based on last night either...that's a top 5 defense...and we still were moving the ball well as the game went on. The defense was rock solid, allowing 315 yards of offense even missing some key players. And despite the loss, give me opponents like Clemson or Notre Dame every year...chalking up a trivial bowl win against a crappy opponent does no one any good other than give you some happy vibes.

You could be a fan of Texas or Nebraska...I'll take Campbell and this team every time.

Brock ran well. He was getting 5 yards a pop. We underutilized him in my opinion.

Underutilized the running game period.

16 called run plays last night, vs 39 pass attempts. If I read the PxP correctly, only 5 called runs in the 2nd half. FIVE!!!!! Yeah they were down 14 for quite a while, but you can't just abandon the run against a D-line looking to tee off on a QB. Draws, screens, pitches - didn't have any of that.

WRT Jirehl, I think he is a much more "blast into the hole at 100 mph" type runner, compared to Breece "wait for it, wait for it, GO!" style. There was a play last night, where Jirehl was 8 yards downfield in about a second, and it was almost like he stopped because he was surprised he hadn't been hit.

The right edge/side was there and I'm not sure if they really hammered on it and I'm not sure why you wouldn't if it's what's working.

Of course Iowa State is better than they have before. I believe it would be hard not to. We have been so horrible for do long we think 7-6 is a great season.

My point is that in order to get to the next level we can't have a 9-3 season with nineteen starters returning and finish 7-6. It impacts the whole program in terms of recruiting and overall impression.

The next level means actually winning a Big 12 Championship once every 20 years. Maybe I am asking too much but I believe all Iowa State fans should at least include this in our expectations.

By your line of thinking we have gotten to the next level already with winning the Big 12 Regular season and winning the Fiesta bowl last year.

Sorry, we did not win the Big 12 Championship last year. Winning the regular season does not count.

Silas is, too, from what little we've seen. Probably even more so for that style than J-Brock.

I don't expect to see "student-body right" with QB under-center and pitch-sweeps, but have to get players like that more full-steam, more frequently.

Call me crazy, but I think Silas will be ISU's version of Deuce Vaughn.
