What constitutes 'staying together' for the BIG 12? Do we have to stay together completely unchanged in order to get the full TX/OU buyout? Can one, two, three teams leave early and the BIG 12 still gets a 'pro-rated' buyout? Can the BIG 12 add 2-4 teams early (before '25) and still get the buyout?
It's my understanding that at least 8 of the 10 members would have to be in agreement to dissolve the Big 12. So I am sure there are actions going on behind closed doors to find new P5 homes for 6 more Big 12 teams. Whether those actions will be successful is the million dollar question.

I am bummed that Texas and OU didn't take 2 more Big 12 schools with them. I would think the SEC would have voted Yes no matter who those other 2 were. But now it seems less likely that anyone else will get an SEC invite.

Why isn't 'Add Alabama and Ohio State' an option?

That would fix EVERYTHING.

Just gotta hold out 10-15 years. When all those egos join up, they’ll all be looking for “their own thing” soon, and it’ll happen quicker than we can even imagine.

Why would we want to be in the Big 10 ? For the past 40 years we have hated the Big 10, and have told them that often.

Not only is this dumb now but we would have taken a B1G invite even if UT or OU didn't bail. Just adding in the additional TV money the B1G would pay moves our AD budget to 31st in the nation. Just a few years ago we were in the 60s in that ranking.

Thank you. That helped. Of course I still have questions but that's probably what I need to know for now. 8 of the 10 schools need a consensus to leave/dissolve or not. So far only 2 (Tx and OU) have done so. That means 6 more need to either vote to stay or dissolve.

Discussions and compromise for the rest.

I like what the Kansas guy said on the radio this afternoon ( This is assuming we can't get into the Big 10 or Pac 12).

Add BYU, and UCF or Cinnci.

Add Wichita St and Creighton in all sports except football.
so what would you suggest if the Big 10 or Pac 12 aren't an option? Go with 8 team? MTN West? AAC?
I like adding BYU, Memphis, Cincinnati, Houston. Central Florida I would like to add too but they would need a travel partner which would be South Florida. I like 12 teams more than 14 but could go for this.

I'm not a fan of the partial sports invite.
I think Cincinnati is worth the grab too.
+ BYU and Cincinnati for a 10 team big Xii-*.
First guess.

*-If the B1G and Pac are NOT options
Yep, BYU and Cinci are the first calls. If other teams like Memphis or Houston will weaken the revenue payout, it may still be worth adding. It depends on how much less. If the conference payout drops by $2 million per school with the addition of Memphis and Houston, that seems close enough to add. There is additional benefit in having more teams make bowls, more national voting power, etc. Plus, the media would frequently talk in totals when comparing conferences like NFL draft picks, revenue, attendance, # of bowl bids, etc. instead of per member that it would make the Big 12 look weak. 10 is the perfect number but that is too low in today's world. I like 12-16 teams total.
All of this/these are probably back door contingencies. They will be ready to implement in 2025 if needed.

Of course we hope we and the other Big 12 orphans will have a place before then. It will be difficult for us all to be patient until then.

Lots of whispers...getting louder each day...that the B1G is going hard after USC, UCLA, Oregon and Washington....and that those schools are going to make the jump. If that happens, our position starts to clarify rapidly. In such an event, the only logical step is for the remnants of the Pac and Big 12 to merge...and perhaps add a team or two to get to 16.

Something like this:

California PodMountain Pod
CalUtah
Washingon StateColorado
Oregon StateArizona
StanfordArizona State
Lone Star PodGreat Plains Pod
Texas TechIowa State
TCUKansas State
BaylorCincinnati
Oklahoma StateKansas

The new Pac 12 commish better be working day and night to ensure that doesn't happen to the Pac 12 the same way it happened to the Big 12. If the Pac 12 stays together I like Iowa States chances to get an invite to the Big Ten or Pac 12.

Also, just a note, if the B1G does indeed go after those Pac 12 schools, there is no chance Stanford and Cal and that northern California market get left behind. The B1G is extremely prestigious academically and Stanford is the flagship academic institution of the west. Cal Berkley not far behind. A lot of $$$.

Edited because of a retake. Correct me if I'm wrong. You're sarcastically saying "get with the current program folks because the paradigm you're using no longer exists". Right?

ISU 'adds' content, diversity, competition and rivalry. EVERY instance of 'viewership' has the 'rivalries' near the top. 'Cable' thinking is passé. That was ESPNs diamond and look at the mess it's gotten them into. Sure, there'll be people saying otherwise, but any trend analysis sees the end of cable product packaging and introduction of PPV or more single product packaging (eg 4 ISU games and one out-of-conference game for $35)

I like where your head is at here. The streaming world will feature drastically different competitive terrain than the traditional cable world. People smarter than I can talk more about the specifics and ISU’s opportunities therein. I hope such people are working working the ISU athletic department to wage brand warfare in the streaming world.

If UT/OU would have been more transparent and collaborative about their intended move, perhaps the Big 12 orphans would already have new homes that align with their interests and relative strength. Then, everyone could move into their new worlds in 2022 with minimal expense.

Instead,UT/OU choose the underhanded path of secrecy and manipulation, showing a callous disregard for their contractual partners. Did they really expect the remaining 8 would just accept being cast to the four winds? Without acceptable alternatives locked in, of course the Big 12 orphans will fight tooth and nail to delay the dissolution of the current Big 12 and it’s lucrative GoR. Bowlsby, Pollard and others have clearly signaled that UT/OU’s arrogance and short-sightedness is going to cost them time and money.

UT has had a callous disregard for the Big 12 for many years. Many times when they have needed to fill an opening, the first place they look is other schools in the conference. Ex. Their men’s basketball coach and athletic director. The SEC schools may not be so accommodating.

What's your alternate if the B1G offers?

I also hate Kansas basketball but sign me up every year to have ISU be in the same conference (on the idea that ISU Is at least decent).

We generally hate Iowa too...the businesses in whatever town is hosting probably don't mind the annual football game, nor do the local media or bars.

You have to sort of admire that when OU and UT were whoring themselves out for admission to other conferences in secret, when everyone found out they were incensed.

And then KU just rolls this out there.

Here's a take on embracing the inevitable.

Horrible idea on adding all Texas members from the AAC. The existence of a Super League would not preclude having national interest if you have the right composition of teams. Most of the college football world will be on the outside looking in, and will most likely embrace traditional college football, and actively ignore the "Super League" in favor of the NFL.
