What will ISU be ranked?

ISU absolutely should be ranked in the Top 10... they have earned it so far. If they can get through the Big 12 schedule and finish near the top (very possible) they should stay in the top 10... they will have earned it, too.

Hell our 2-22 team almost beat them on the road last year, I’m not going to act like we can’t win that game.

They were coming off a COVID break last year when that happened as I recall. Took them awhile to get back to form.

I wear red socks for all the games. Been doing it for years. Does it help the teams win? Doubtful. Does it make me less anxious? Yup. So deal with it.

To me, high rankings are a mixed blessing. Yeah, it's cool to see our teams up there in the rankings. But we have a sad history of our teams dying ugly deaths when ranked.
Either they buy into the hype and think all they have to do is show up (UAB, anyone?) or they become a bigger target and get the best efforts of every team in the Big 12, and that's a helluva a grind.

So yeah, I'm wary of high rankings. Do I think it's a conspiracy curse? No, not really. But I've seen bad things happen when we're ranked, and I'm a Cyclone. I may need a nut cup, but I definitely understand the desire for one. :D
I 100 percent understand superstitions I just have to laugh at it a bit!

I’ll never forget that UAB game, that ISU team came back from double digits their last eight games of the season if I recall. They had a terrible habit of starting slow getting behind and coming back. Then when they showed up as a three seed with frosted tips and cockiness to the tournament…..I knew we were in for a long night. Offensively gifted but a very undisciplined team.

Crepes has us #14 after not ranked a week ago. Two pollsters have us at 25. Joining decock is Jesse newell from Kansas City star who ranks the Hawkeyes 23rd and VT 22nd. Only pollster to rank either of those two teams
You should have your voter rights revoked for this alone.

If you think we play poorly when ranked, you should see how we play when unranked...

It's only an illusion that we play worse when highly ranked. To be highly ranked in the first place, the performance leading up to it has to be especially good. The higher the performance, the more improbable it will be maintained.

On one hand, our #9 ranking starts dropping once Big12 season starts. It just will. On the other, anyone who honestly thought we'd be ranked in the Top 10 in TJ's first season surely resides in the nuthouse. So let's enjoy this!

ISU dropped to OU in 2002 after being ranked #9 in football, Senaca having a feature on Gameday, and proceeded to self destruct and ended up in Boise in sleet and freezing rain.

2021, ISU is on the cusp of its greatest season ever, facing down its hated rival, ranked #9, and Brock Purdy throws 3 INTs and Breece Hall fumbles and ISU goes on to finish 4th.

2014-2015 Mens Basketball ranked #9, after an unbelievable season drops against UAB in the NCAA tournament ending a season in devastating fashion.

2013-2014 Mens Basketball ranked #9 on the cusp of a final four run with Sophomore Georges Niang, Seniors Melvin Ejim and DeAndre Kane, Georges Niang breaks his foot in their first game in the NCAA tournament, and although a valiant run was made, the Cyclones ran out of gas in the sweet 16.

2002 7-7 Team obviously was very overrated
2021 7-5 simply wasn’t a top ten team and also routinely ***** the bed against Iowa
2014-2015 Consistently fell behind around 15 points every game to end the season and finally got bit
2013-2014 Pain

Take solace in that we are #8 in the coaches poll, so that should undo the voodoo that is being ranked #9. Knock on wood, fingers crossed, and skipping over the chalk on the third base line
I want to believe ISU is a top 10 team... I truly do. After they get into the Big 12 season, we will see. The Big 12 is a total meat grinder. So far ISU has risen to the challenge. I just wish the Baylor game would have been later, when the students could be there.
We might lose to Baylor but so as other teams in Big 12. Some posters here think we have no chance against Baylor. We have beaten many ranked team in Hilton. I like our chances in Hilton.

Ranking helps with recruiting

I absolutely think we have a chance against Baylor. I'm hoping that our crowd is a normal Hilton Magic advantage, despite it being on New Year's Day vs a whole bunch of bowl games, and being during break with the absence of the noise from Cyclone Alley.

Baylor is a completely different team than last year. They won’t play any place like Hilton before we play them. We’ll be fine.

Man I loved those teams and players, but yeah, if you're known for comebacks you probably don't have the pedal down the entire game. Must have drove TJ nuts!
