Where are the transfers?

Fred had a ton of transfers before he turned anything around. Royce, Babb, Allen and Booker were on the team during his first season. They had built nothing, Fred had only coached a handful of games...
I don't think anyone really wanted to mess with the Royce or Chris Aleen situations at the time though. Shoot, I thought Fred was nuts to bring in Royce at the time.

Right now, things are looking pretty tough for 2016. Guards won't be too bad with Thomas, Cooke, Noshowiak, but only Burton returns in the front court. They'll have Ernst and Babb available. I was hoping they would add another decent player sitting out next year. Instead, they are going to have to hit the JUCOs and SR eligible transfers hard. And hopefully grab 2-3 high quality FR. If they have to wait and get traditional transfers after next season, we're in for a rough year in 16-17.

Since it's July, they need to get on the lists of some top FR this month. In the fall jump on big-time JUCOs. They'll have a scholarship open for mid-year transfers and that would be great to get a good one. Then after the season be ready to go after SR eligible kids. It's going to take a good plan to avoid a huge drop off next year.

Completely agree.

Wait a minute, how dare you (jk) ...I posted something to this effect when Matt left and pretty apparent Bulls rumor/move. Was basically crushed with the negative nancy crap. But anyway, most relationships that Matt aleady built went away even before Hoiberg announcement. St. Johns gets our Williams, probably Rowan(another 4-star we were recruiting), not to mention Yakwe is probably history. And those are just some we know about. Excited and optimistic to see what Prohm can do, but for most schools (other than some elite few), a coaching change and lead recruiter gone will make a big impact. Not giving up hope, but I agree, we're going to be playing catch-up on 2016 guys. JUCO's will be important, imo. What may be more important (now) for our program's success is to build great relationships with 2017 targets/offers. Can we say "patience"? Gonna need it.

What had Matt A done in his 5 years at ISU that would lead you to believe he was going to sign any of those HS kids he was after? Matt may have had some relationships, but most assistants do. It doesn't mean you are getting the kids to come to Iowa State, and in Matt's case he wasn't.

Like I was saying during the coaching search; if we can get to the Final Four this year, nothing matters, we'll be made for the next decade. No pressure guys.

Good point on the HS kids, close means nothing, but losing Williams really hurt and he'd know about the best transfers before many others publicly did. That seemed to be his strength. I'm not claiming Matt as world's best recruiter, I'm just saying the transition was going to hurt for 2016-17.
