I'm in for my 14th. Gonna be a blast!
Is this the Cydswipe from RBR?
I'm in for my 14th. Gonna be a blast!
This Saturday is the Triple Bypass; bicycling 120 miles from Evergreen to Avon Colorado over Squaw, Loveland, and Vail Passes. The Triple Bypass is so cool.
In the way of an epic ride, I bicycled Trail Ridge Road (from Estes Park to Granby) June 20th in the middle of white-out/blizzard with snow banked 30 feet high on both sides of the road. The visitors center was still buried by snow.
I'm going to do the Double Triple next year. You in?
Yep.
Ragbrai is not that difficult. It's as hard as you make it. Sure, some days you have more hills then other. If you party non stop it makes for a long week. Also there are towns on average every 8 to 10 miles. Plenty of farm stops and places for food. Take your time and have fun. Nothing bothers me more then mr serious rider that thinks it's a race race and don't enjoy it. You will recognize them by there long draft lines going 10mph faster then your ave bike team draft line. If this was a race they would incorporate it in the name.
This is my 4th year and unfortunately with newborn I only get 3 days. So I'm going to treat it like a vacation.enjoy
Just because someone likes to hammer it now and then, don't make assumptions that they aren't enjoying the ride. Some of the faster riders out there are enjoying their time on the bike doing what they love with their buddies. They then get off the bike and party it up in the towns. I know we will often leave the bar in one town after some riders, pass them on the road and already be enjoying the next town when those same riders arrive. I would not enjoy putting along unless I had a reason like one of my kids riding with me.
I don't get how someone doing what they enjoy and not interfering with your ride should bother you.
I believe this will be my 15th ride. I missed one year entirely due to a new job.
I'm in with some people from Colorado and one from Hollywood. This will be the first RAGBRAI for all of us. Who else is doing the ride? Any tips on surviving? (I have done a bike tour in Colorado so I know what to pack, etc.)
Look out RAGBRAIers!I will be driving my third-straight RAGBRAI.
I should of included in my first post....
Mr serious rider gets offended easily when you say something like this on a message board.
A little touchy today I see.....I didn't realize you were the 1 serious rider on Ragbrai out of the 10,000 that ride.
Trust me I know plenty of people that start in morning and ride clear through as fast as they can stoping only at the halfway point to eat.
To each there own. It sounds like you enjoy it.. Congrats. You are 1 out of the 98% that love it. The other 1 % are serious and the other 1 % are people that shouldn't be doing it in the first place and hate it.
I didn't realize you were also doing RAGBRAI. Want to hook up with the rest of us from RBR?

I gots HW's ph. number. I'll probably text once the road gets rolling so we can all get together for a couple of days/drinks.
You seem to make a lot of assumptions. When driving, do you call everyone passing you maniacs and everybody going slower than you idiots?
There are definitely hard-core riders that are using this for training, but I have less problem with those guys then the 8 mph putters swerving and not being "good" riders. I would say 98% of people enjoy the ride and in there is a range of 5-25 mph speeds. But, that is my opinion.
Assumptions??? Really??
So you're assuming that I'm calling people on the interstate idoits because of how they drive?? Which translates to how I view people on Ragbrai??? Really?? And never did I call a serious rider an idoit in this thread. Go back and read it. WOW!!!
I've seen as many accidents or near accidents from slow riders like you said as I do some speedsters and training people. I will agree that the slow riders swerving are a problem, but they are more predictable as you see them coming.
Unless you check your mirror every second I have seen just as many people flying by you forgetting to say "on your left" and almost clipping you.
It goes both ways... But thanks for assuming my exact thoughts on it.
Like I said there are some serious riders that don't enjoy themselves. I was just warning the OP about it.

Yep, you win. Note to self to stay away from Team Joker. See ya soon, Velo! Can't wait.
