Who's flag is flying at Kum and Go's HQ?

My question is why in the world would Kum and Go fly any university/sports team flag at their HQ? If it has any effect at all, it's surely a negative one (Cyclone supporters choosing not to stop there). It's not as if Hok fans are going to suddenly flock to Kum and Go because of this, right, so what's the upside?

I don't know much about retail business, but it just seems like anything unnecessary that runs the risk of alienating customers is ill-advised.

I think Abe Satterfield and Cedric Everson were big fans of the Kum and Go.

My 2 little copper coins:

Yes, if you choose to not shop at Kum and go for any reason, that's your choice, and that's fine. If you get all butthurt because someone flys a flag of another team, that's a little too intense. If you think this is a marketing nightmare, you might be right, but god, does everything have to be about 'how it looks'? Let a fan be a fan. If you wanna not shop there because of that, fine, but no one will tell me not to fly the cardinal and gold because it's not popular.

I live in IC, remember. I deal with this every week during football season. Interestingly, I don't seem to have a problem during basketball season. Hmm....

I'm lucky because living in Ames I always buy my gas at one of Gary Thompsons stations.

I am never going to buy a pair of Nike shoes again! That bastard Phil Knight is a total Oregon homer. What an *******! I will only buy my sneakers from a major shoe company founded by an ISU grad.

There are plenty of reasons for boycotting certain businesses. Being a hok fan is not one of them.

I really hope that asking the cashier for this information is the first thing you do once inside of the store. Instead of asking them after you bring your cart of yet-to-be purchases to the counter. Otherwise your a idiot, and just wasted your time.

But i also get to waste their time, because they have to put all of it back.

Though the CEO is a Hawk fan, I won't stop using Kum and Go. It's just a sports team so it shouldn't have any weight on whether you will use that business services or not. Personally, I would proudly fly an Iowa State flag outside of my business, if I had one. Good for him for supporting his team. Too many people "try to play nice" nowadays.

After graduation in 1972, I joined a DSM based company that was owned by an Iowa grad and former lineman on the IA football team. His name is on several IC campus buildings. He didn't hesitate hiring ISU grads. He hired an ISU engineer shortly after me and we are still with this company. We knew he was a large donor and booster. We also knew he was our boss. He gave to ISU, just not to the same extent.

I stop at K&G. There is one in North Liberty that had a cashier who was so pleasant and polite that I called their DSM offices to give him an atta boy.

I stop at Casey's stores more often. I don't know if that company donates to ISU. I would hope they do.

It was good to read that the Krause's gave to the ISU Engineering School.

My oldest daughter graduated from Iowa, just like thousands of other Illinois high school grads. A Krause family granddaughter was in the same dorm on the same floor during their freshmen year. I am happy to report that more and more Illinois high schoolers are headed to ISU now. They are like lemmings. They also like ISU because it isn't Iowa and it isn't Illinois. Iowa lacks excellent Engineering and the ISU Sciences are better. More are attracted to the Business School too.

I get sick seeing Black and Gold, but this year was really special with that Triple overtime win. We were there to witness the game. I was happy. My daughter was not happy.

I assumed they would fly the UI flag this week so everyone could gather round and have a "point and laugh" company bonding experience after losing to the juggernaut football team formally known as Minnesota. I wholeheartedly support that.

I go the gas station that is closest to my current location when I require gasoline, beer, empty my bladder, etc.

Flying a Hok flag is a sign of delusion and a few other maladies...but being the large percentage of EIU grads in the service industry, I assume they can provide me a pleasant experience in such establishments.

I dislike Kum and Go because they destroyed the childhood memories I had of hanging out at various 7-11's they bought and converted.

I also don't like the sexual innuendo so common in gas station names.

One time I lived on the corner of an intersection. On one of the other corners was Kum and Go. On another corner was Pump and Pack. It was my dream to start a store or gas station on the other corner called F*&% and Save.

I really don't care if they're Iowa fans though, I actually admire the guts to fly an Iowa flag after they lost to the worst team in a BCS conference.

Who was the marketing genius that thought Kum sells gas? Makes me think of a smoke and a nap.
