I like the thought of hiring a guy with offensive line coaching expertise. We definitely need an offensive coach.

I want someone that's going to be able to recruit a dominant offensive line and run a smashmouth game. I'm tired of watching this style of offense to be honest. Build after the K-State model. Iowa State cannot continue to think that it can try to build like Oklahoma State or a Texas school.
I believe Rhoads get another year to see what he can do with the recruits the new staff brought in. But pressure will be on Wally to finally retire to that lake cabin in Florida.
A few have mentioned the guy at Utah State but I kinda like the guy at Utah.

I like Greg Schiano more and more as this thread develops.
Terry Bowden would be an interesting choice.
I'm open to a lot of options at this point, but taking a shine to the first one.

For me:
1. He's available
2. Something of a splash hire
3. He's won in college more than we've ever seen.
4. The idea drives Stormin absolutely crazy.
Wells at Utah St HC. I have not read this thread but I assume others have mentioned him already. There is Mangino of course. Harbaugh will be available again. Give him what he wants since we did not hire him when he wanted to be here before.
And given all that I don't think there is any way he comes here unless we pay significantly more than we pay CPR. I don't think 500k is enough to take over this train wreck and leave all those other things behind.
That won't work, since the Michigan job will be open as well. Michigan > Iowa State for 99% of coaches. And we can't afford to give Harbaugh more than what Michigan would offer him.
It will be interesting to see if the players really love CPR and rally after that pathetic beat down to try and save his job.
But it Pollard knows after that game he's letting CPR go I'd do it sooner rather than later and get a feel for what Mangino can do here before deciding who to hire in the offseason.
I know a few weeks ago Pollard said he supported CPR, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's given one more year with a new DC given the benefit of the doubt because of all the new coaches on O, and all the inexperience on defense topped with a ridiculous amount of injurys(again). But that can also change after losing to KANSAS and probably an unexpected amount of the fanbase calling for his head.
Which brings up another point, we all know Yancy is great at what he does, most of are players have gotten a hell of a lot stronger and we have more and more people post crazy combine numbers.. But is he not getting them in football shape? Something he's doing leading to injurys or are we just that unlucky?

I have been thinking about this since the Liberty Bowl disaster when C-USA team was blowing us off the line. Of course UNI and NDSU have been doing this too, not just teams like OU or Texas. Yeah the guys may be 'strong' but whatever is going on in the strength training program does not translate to football strength.
This is true if Michigan chooses him, rumor has that bridge has been burned and Les Miles might be the guy there. I am just saying if he shows any interest at all give him what he wants, I don't care if it is for 2-3 years.
I am sure he would at least give it a good hard look since he was a player there and also coached there for 8 years. I am sure Michigan could make an enticing offer.

Wasn't Michigan going to offer him the job like 5 years ago but Les resigned with LSU?
