Iowa fan values: fringe NBA cup of coffee players are the #1 thing in the universe

ISU fan values: NCAA wins, NCAA appearances, Big 12 tournament titles, soon to be 3 recent All Americans, 4-1 against KU in last 5, 6-1 against Iowa in last 7 (oh and having the same # of fringe cup of coffee NBA players anyway, 2)

To each his own I guess.

Are you talking about just Niang or ISU historically? If it is all time you do realize they have more NCAA appearances and wins than us correct?

You're fooling zero people with "us". We get a dozen Iowa trolls a month here pretending to be ISU fans. How sad is someone's life to think that's clever?

I'm 37. Since I started watching basketball as a 7 year old ISU has the advantage or is level in every single metric possible...and I grew up an Iowa fan so I have good memories of both programs, it's just clear truth that for people under 40 ISU has been the clear better program even if you want to take the "all time" crybaby route.

But yes I was talking about the roughly 4 years Niang has played and absolutely destroyed Iowa's program by every metric except for late second round draft picks (but the same number of ISU players have had a cup of coffee anyway, 2).

In the last 30 years ISU has more wins head to head, tournament appearences, tournament wins, sweet 16's, reg season conf titles and conf tourney titles. 30 years! How far back do you want to go? 17 of Iowa's wins against ISU were back when they were using peach baskets with final scores of 8-6 and 13-9. Sorry, but I don't count that crap.

Didn't know because I stated something, it meant I was a troll. Didn't know I had to "prove" myself.

I would go:

Morris
Niang
Uthoff

in that order, in terms of most valuable college basketball player. They are all very close though.

Niang vs Uthoff?

This much I know, for what he's meant to our program vs what Uthoff has meant for their program -- not even close. Then add the charisma, humor, persona ... again not even close. Their play year since Iowa/Uthoff choked that game away, Uthoff MAYBE has played better. But that would be up for debate too.

Niang will go down as one of the most beloved Cyclone BB players of all time. Uthoff? He'll be in the same category as Luke Recker or Adam Haluska.

First post here although I wander around State of Iowa message boards because I like sports. Anyway, your comment made me wonder about the NCAA tournament for the two schools the last 30 years and by my count, (using ESPN) both Iowa and Iowa State have made it 15 times each with identical 15-15 records. An elite 8 for both schools with a couple of unfortunate first round losses as a 2 or 3 seed for both too.

This isn't a comment about who is supposedly better or anything, just something I was curious about.

Here's hoping they both improve on those records this year.

Uthoff is certainly going through an incredible period. If he played like this for 4 years, there's no doubt he should be considered a better than Niang. Playing a "A+" game for 2 months is very different from playing a "A" game for 4 years.

Form is temporary. Class is permanent.

Obviously Monte has been great for 3 years w that amazing A/TO ratio. Lately, however, it seens he has finally gotten rid of all the extra stuff, the cool factor of you will. That has made all the difference these last few weeks and no one is playing as well as him. Its next level now, scoring and finishing games especially.

Interesting because Niang averages more points, rebounds and assists and is known for being clutch will Uthoff tends to be the opposite

Better FG%, better FT%, more steals, better defensive stats. About the only things Uthoff beats Niang on are 3-pointers and blocks.

Dean Uthoff > Jarrod Uthoff
