Why ISU gets Gill....

Who knows if we get this guy. Don't even know if he's the right guy for the job. Certainly looks like a great option.

I just see so many thinking he's the only viable option out there. So what if we don't get him? Or, what if Pollard doesn't even want him?

Hanging onto one guy via these searches for anyone usually isn't a good idea...sets ya up for disappointment.

I actually agree.

Folks, I'm not trying to throw Gill off our search list, but I just want some discussion around his record:
2006: 2-10
2007: 5-7
2008: 8-5

I mean, why is everybody chomping to land Gill, who has three seasons as HC and his best season is 5 losses - and one of them was to Kent State!! And the wins are not that impressive. It just seems like Gill needs another couple more seasons to prove himself.

because 5 losses with buffalo is like 4 losses with iowa state. get it?

Did you look at their record for the three years before he got there. He took a team that had the longest losing streak in the nation for like a year and turned them into a MAC champion in three years.

That was at BUFFALO. An unprecedented streak in ESPN's bottom 10. Let's see, in 2006 they were 2-10. Sound familiar? I would be THRILLED with 5-7 next year and 8-5 the year after that!

Whoever is the coach is going to struggle to get to that.

Remember these 2 were the ones that were convinced JP interview Brewster in Denver and he was to be the next ISU coach. They also talked for days about the Neb OC (forgot his name) being the new coach. They do get stuff right, but they also throw stuff out there just to see what happens and if it sticks. JP and SM are probly the only 2 that know what is going on with the search.

I would love to get Gill. Seems to be a perfect fit. But Jamies too smart to only interview one person. So the next several days we will be hearing quite a few names.

Ok, OK .....I'm on the Gill bandwagon - one season with 5 losses and Gill is the next Nick Saban.....Go Jamie - offer him $2 million + $1 more than what Cheesestick is getting at Auburn and ISU will be in a January bowl in three years guaranteed!

Yeah, because anyone here is claiming Gill is "the next Saban".

I think the piece you are missing is called "perspective". Try some sometime.

Why? Next year, we have the easiest schedule I have ever seen in my years as a cyclone. What did he have that we don't or won't have?

You are the third person that seems to struggle READING. I bold the 8-5 the year after, when our schedule is about 30x harder then next years. :wideeyed:

Buffalo was 8-47 in the five years before TG arrived. Try building a conference champion in three years from that spectacular foundation. Granted, he was able to sell recruits on the fabulous Buffalo weather, but still impressive.
